Even if it were possible you'd get spanked on interest anyway, seriously not worth it.0

The reason shops are usually happy to give cashback on debit cards is because the banks charge them a fixed charge per debit card transaction, regardless of the amount.
Its also a way for them to get rid of cash that they would otherwise have to take to the bank, and be charged for banking it, so giving cashback on debit cards actually saves them money in bank charges.
Credit card transactions on the other hand are normally charged on a percentage basis by banks, so offering cashback on these would cost retailers extra in bank charges.0 -

Well put.
I've heard of a couple of people who go to convenience stores to get money off credit cards; the retailer processes the transaction as a purchase (thus escaping fees and interest) and tacks on a small charge to cover the cost of the transaction. So it's possible, if a little underhanded (and it might well break card association/payment processor rules), but your chances of doing such at a chain store (e.g. Tesco, Morrisons, Waitrose, Co-Op) are quite simply nil, as it's hard (if not totally impossible) to engineer such a scenario.
One way you could do an end-run around it is to buy something expensive and non-perishable on a CC and then return it for a cash refund. COULD do, as by all likelihood all that will happen is your refund gets put straight back onto your CC.
In all seriousness, getting cash out of a CC is something you save for dire emergencies only. If you're at the point where it becomes a necessity and doing one of the end-runs above seems like a good idea, you need to focus on why you're so tight for cash in the first place.0 -

I have found in the past when getting refunds for items bought on credit cards that most retailers insist on paying the refund back to a card, but rarely check that its the same card. It may be possible therefore to get the refund put onto a debit card instead of the credit card the item was originally bought with.0 -
The only places I have ever been offered cash back on my Amex card is at two pubs in London, one in Limehouse and the other in Lambeth. I think this was an entirely ad hoc arrangement at each place.
This is probably because they're not putting it through as cashback and instead putting the total amount (the round of drinks plus the cash) through the till and giving you the cashback as "change".
This is great for the customer as it counts as a purchase and would get charged purchase interest. Therefore no handling fee or cash interest.
Amex does not offer a bank debit card, so cannot offer cashback.0 -
Wish they would do this for Visa.Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.0
