I live in a rooming house and last week i got a letter from the TV liencsing people saying that they have no record of me having a licence for my TV most people in the house have a television in their room the landlord has got a TV licence which covers the address so why are they on to me
How they found out i live at the address is i got some TV stuff from a shop who then passed my details on to them ...any advice on the subject please

I expect they have searched the database for a TV licence in YOUR name, but if you explain that the landlord has a licence for the house you're in and give his name/address etc then it should clear it up. Ring them

Or just ignore them. The TV Licensing people are completely useless. We had a TV license for the house last year, my flatmate phoned up about 5 times to ensure the address was correct and they still sent us threatening letters. So we gave up with them and nothing else happened.0

You need to check the rules which are complex. The landlord's license may not cover you for a TV in your room. I know student halls require a TV license for your room if you have a TV there even if there is a communal TV (with a license). So be careful you know what the law is before you admit anything. The TV licensing web site has all the rules AFAIR.0

Definitely. I suspect quite a bit depends on your rental contract. Are you and a group of others collectively renting a house between you, or do you rent the room individually?0 -

Isn't it the case in a shared house where each person has a lock on their room door that they require a tv license each?0
