Orange broadband vs BT & O2
Options

Hello! Well I have finally decided between two options for the student flat, there is a catch as always though!
We could get Orange broadband, through my dad's contract, and we would go for the £17pm package which includes line rental and inclusive calls, so nothing to do with BT. It's unlimited, 8GB, comes with the Livebox (router).
OR, we could wait two months until the exchange enables us to get O2 broadband at £7.50pm, plus £10.50pm line rental from BT.
Not much of a price difference as it will be split between three of us. Basically need some advice on which to go for, and personal experiences would be nice.
Thanks folks!

To get the Orange Max deal your need a BT home phone line or similar (excluding Kingston Communications and cable).
BT will charge you £70 to cancel your line rental contract.0 -
Hi! I'm currently changing my ISP and I've decided to go with o2. I think you should consider it too. I believe the others are also 12 month contract. If o2 will be enabled in two months then it means you'll also have Be* enabled too. If that is the case, then you can go with them and you're only under a three month contract (at a bigger price).
I've been advised for o2 as well so that's who I think I will go with...
P.S I looked into Orange and BT and I heard how atrocious they really are so I don't think you should even consider them a possibility.
P.P.S As a student - every penny counts!0 -
o2 is the one to go with.....
i had BT since erm 2000(dial up) they are good but not nothing amazing, their broadband gets really annoying they give you like 1 MB sometimes,
but o2 are actually very good, 1-2 MB upload, and 6-9 MB and thats consistent i woudl reccomened it to anybody interested in getting it, and they just recently bought BEinternet and they was really good so that is the line we are on so you get a good connection
but for o2 i only pay £2.50 a month hehe0 -
look on money supermarket under broadband and look at the reviews....everyone else gets appalling reviews but o2 get some of the best. ive decided to go with 02 - 2months ago my postcode wasnt near enough to the exchange but now it is so they are working quite fast to get bigger coverage...0

I was with Orange for years without any problems whatsoever until recently when I experienced possibly the worst customer service I've ever come across in my entire life which resulted in complaints being made to Ofcom and the ISPA. I would never personally recommend them to anyone!! - I'd already been through the mill with talktalk and Orange just about finished me off!
Whilst I was going through broadband hell with Orange I came across an excellent forum which focuses on broadband providers and is peopled by techie types (including staff from most of the big providers so if you have a problem they will jump in and pick it up for you and deal with it much quicker than ringing the horrid call centres!). I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post the link but I'll pop it here anyway - admin please remove if it's not allowed.

I found it an absolutely invaluable site when deciding who to go with next - some of the members on there really do know their onions when it comes to broadband providers and they gave me some really good advice.
If you can get O2 in a couple of months I would suggest that you hang on for them rather than going with Orange. There are some bb providers who you can sign up with on a monthly contract with no tie ins which could tide you over in the meantime.
Good luck and I hope you get sorted...Grocery Budget from 24th August to 31st August - £100/Declared at £99.27 :j
Grocery Budget for September - £4000 -
I'd go with a provider with a one month contract or a three month contract but I'd be wary of any longer. An ISP can be highly rated and six months later the service starts going downhill. I had that a while back with Plusnet. When I joined they were great but after a few months were awful.
Wouldn't go near BT at all.0
