Cold...Cold Winter Ahead!

I am quite upset that the energy giants in this country are getting away with those ridiculous price increases! I have a feeling that this will be the beginning of a cold and miserable winter ahead and I feel sorry for those living in colder areas.

How can they justify those price increases? *sigh*.... what are you folks intending to do to stay warm and get debt free this winter?

  • I'm doing my own personal 'No heating until November' challenge.

I have no central heating, so any method I do use is very very expensive :(

We have no central heating so have always just worn more clothes. Better for the environment too.

dd and I are currently trying to knit a blanket each for using when sitting watchin tv etc. I think it will be lots of early nights and perhaps using the facilities at the gym instead of heating hot water etc

it's going to be a tricky one...I'm OK with cold normally but the rest of the family isn't....and the house is expensive to heat....need to get them to grow fur methinks!

I can also see a winter of discontent discussing whether we REALLY need the heating on.....

Even when it's sub zero outside?

I'm also considering different ways to dry my clothes in the depths of winter too... I've seen heated clothes horses that use under 100W which should be better than sitting a standard clothes horse next to an oil heater.
  • Well, with no central heating there's no choice.

Y'know, I know that there has been a huge increase in costs of heating, but I think a lot of people are spoilt by all these things that they think are essential, but actually should be considered luxuries.

  • DH and I have already had the discussion regarding when IS ok for the thermostat to be turned up/on. Although I have to say blankets and sitting in the dark seem to be the general plan.
