Just put some dummy details in the first application page and hit 'continue'.

Then scroll down to the bottom of the next page (section 25 of the form) and you will see...

"Please tick the box to confirm that you agree to the terms and conditions..."

Ah right, they won't let you see the T&Cs until you have given them your details, fercking dodgy site.

OK, maybe not dodgy, but definitely a site that pulls underhand tricks. A bit like MicroShaft selling software where "breaking the seal means you agree to the T&Cs" But the T&Cs are inside, so you can't actually see them until you break the seal.

Personally, I would challenge any site that allows you to order and pay by several methods but only allows you to cancel by one method. I'm pretty sure an average judge would rule that unreasonable.

You agreed to cancel by phone. You chose not to do this. Therefore the responsibility for what happens rests with yourself.

    This is just not true.

Can't remember the exact details now, but there is a law that says something like "If the contract is pre-written by the seller and the buyer has no say in the terms, and the contract gives the seller an unfair advantage, then it is against the law."

Allowing you to order something in several ways, but only cancel in one way is giving the seller an unfair advantage. Therefore it must be wrong.

Just because something is written in the T&Cs on a web site doesn't mean it is legal, even if you do click something to say you agree to it.

But they did let the OP cancel by email. It just took a few days for them to get around to reading it, which resulted in the OP going over the end of the trial period, which is the problem with emails.

If something is time dependent, don't email it and hope someone reads it. And I'd hardly consider asking someone to call a freephone number to cancel "giving the seller an unfair advantage".

It would have been better for the poster to have titled "Creditexpert catch" rather than the vague sounding catch-all used. That way other people would have been aware of the problem and not have been caught out. Is'nt this just "apathy" marketing? Free trial followed by people forgetting to cancel? Back copy of readers digest anyone?

They give people the free trial to entice them to use the service. It is quite clear that if people do not want to get charged, they need to cancel. With CreditExpert, a phone call is all it takes. If people forget to cancel, then it's not CreditExpert's fault. I have never had any problems cancelling or subscribing and I've done this quite a few times.
  • When you email CreditExpert you get an automated reply within minutes and with a tracking reference, so they (or I) can prove when the original email was sent/received.

Today I have received an apology from Credit Expert and a refund to my credit card. They agree they should have acted on the original email which was received 7 days before the 30 day free period had ended.

However how many people just accept the charge, without complaining?

I signed up for the free trail and I had no problems cancelling over the phone, it only took a couple of minutes and was cancelled straight away - I tried to log in to make sure it was cancelled and it was. No problems at all.

I just canceled by phone but was informed i could log into my account till the end of the free trial period. I then felt suspicious so i repeated "your going to close my account?" and the lady said yes she had closed it but i would still be able to log in till the 30th of september because i signed up to a free trial. You dont think there going to put a monthly charge on the end do you?
  • I have read with interest, about to cancel my membership within the 30 day free trial period..

Just for info for those registering with them, there is box that shows Jnr/Snr
amongst your name details. Unles you are American or other nationality that uses the term in their name, leave well alone. I made the mistake of entering Snr thinking I had to put something in that box. I was lent sent a letter from Credit Expert advising me that a person with my full name and letters SNR after my surname as made them aware that there was a financial link with that person and me and my wife. I then had to get in touch with CE and make them aware of the obvious error and hopefully the link will be deleted so they stated.
