When did you receive confirmation by email??

Earlier in the thread, you said...

I emailed them with 7 days to go. They asked me to call during office hours, which I could not do. So I emailed them again, this time they waited until the free 30 days had ended.

They asked you to phone ~ you didn't :confused:

It should read "this time they waited until the free 30 days had ended before replying".

Even if as a goodwill gesture they did cancel your account after your email they had no requirement to.
It seems plain that you should have called up to cancel and you didn't. If like you say you did read the T&Cs before signing up you must have seen this condition - did you just decide that it didn't apply?
As a side note I don't know what if anything withholding a payment will do to your credit rating but I'd look in to it:confused:

  • So why have I received confirmation that my account has been cancelled via email. Proves that emailing is sufficient to cancel my account!

Yes but obviously not sufficient to cancel by email to guarantee cancelling in time within the stated free trial period.

To be honest though, my main reason for reply to this thread is that I find it quite annoying when someone posts a thread stating "Don't Sign up with Credit Expert" or whichever company is the topic of conversation, when it is not the company at fault, or someone has had a bad experience. Don't get me wrong, I know there is a lot of bad companies out there but personally I have had very good experiences with Credit Expert, and your thread title isn't helpful.
  • They are quiet happy to sign you up immediately (without making a telephone call), but make it difficult to leave. As I have already stated I could not call them during their short opening hours, including Saturday mornings. If they were to take calls upto 8pm, I would have called via phone, therefore I had no option but to use email, using the email address they quote on their website.

Whilst under dispute the credit card company will not require this amount to be paid until they have completed their investigation. Therefore as long as I make normal payments, I will not have any problems with my credit file.

  • I'm in the group that found Credit Expert to be very polite & helpful (they even gave me some advice about cleaning up my report) and I had absolutely no bother cancelling the trial.

To anyone reading this thread don't be put off by the OP's experience.

It's more basic than that. Why on earth people sign up to things without reading the T&C's continues to baffle me...

Where are the T&C's? I've just been all over the site and can't find them?

Do you have to sign up to see them?

Just put some dummy details in the first application page and hit 'continue'.

Then scroll down to the bottom of the next page (section 25 of the form) and you will see...

"Please tick the box to confirm that you agree to the terms and conditions..."

But you read the T&C, so you knew you'd have to call them up to cancel. Why would you sign up if you knew you couldn't do this beforehand?

And as for your email, someone has to read it and take action on it, which is why I imagine they ask people to call to cancel, as it'll happen right away.

You agreed to cancel by phone. You chose not to do this. Therefore the responsibility for what happens rests with yourself.
