pregnant on the coil?

Options
I am really worried i am on the non hormone coil and have been on it about 2/3 months and its the first time i've had it i was on the injection before.

yesterday one of my bobs where really sore i just put it down to one of the kids leaning on it too hard anyhoo this morning i went to the loo and i was bleeding and today both my boobs are very tender and feel very 'heavy'.

i have had a few light periods whilst on it but never had the tenderness before
i am really worried i am pregnant am i worrying over nothing or this is just a side affect of the coil?

this may be a lingering side effect of the injection, i used to have it and it took ages before my body was back to it's normal rythms.
However, you may well be pregnant, i know quite a few people who have had a coil baby so i would suggest doing a pregnancy test.
Were your perids back to normal before this?

I've not had the injection, but I have had the coil. I'm no expert, but it sounds to me a bit like your first 'real' period since coming off the hormones...I went straight from the pill to a coil and found it a real shock when my periods went back to normal, as they were very heavy and I had more 'real' PMT type symptoms. Sore boobs, bloating, etc.

For peace of mind, I'd probably do a pregnancy test just to rule it out. My youngest sister was conceived while my mum had a coil, so it can happen...but it is a very reliable form of contraception (some say more reliable than condoms....)

    Take care

  • I'm sorry to say this but I had a Mirena coil fitted about 12yrs ago and fell pregnant within 2 months but sadly I miscarried. It was taken out the same time as the D&C as obviously it didnt work for me.

  • Just to add some balance - coil has worked for me for 11 years - I swear by it. And I don't know anyone who has become pregnant with one. However, I do recall that the chances of an ectopic pregnancy are slightly higher with a coil as it is extremely rare for a fertilised egg to become attached to the womb, so for that reason, i would also suggest a test to anyone who's period is late whilst having a coil fitted.

Pregnancy is very unlikely if an IUD is in place. Use a home pregnancy test, these are very reliable if used properly and widely available (eg at 24-hr supermarkets) so there is no sense in delaying.

In the very very very unlikely event you have conceived, go back to the FP clinic / wheever it was you had the IUD inserted. They wil be able to advise you further. Doing nothing is not an option, you need some peace of mind.

Sounds to me like your hormones are settling down after the jag and then having no artificial hormones in you. Like the others do a pregnancy test if you are really worried but I really think it is just your body adjusting.

None of us here can tell you whether we think your pregnant or not you really need to take a pregnancy test that way you will know for sure.
