My credit report has a CIFAS warning on it, level 4.
This is for someone at my old property trying to obtain a loan 2 months or so after I'd sold the property a year ago.
I've queried with Experian, as they say you should contact the originator of the CIFAS warning, but if you don't have any connection to the lender or the borrower, should Experian not chase on your behalf?
Also, is it normal for these warnings to stay on your credit record? Fair enough, the lenders just want proof of id before agreeing to a new credit card, but it means I don't get "instant decisions" any more.

My husband was made redundant 6/7 years ago, as a result defaulted on a few finance payments, the debt was purchased by a collection agency and he cleared the debt with them. A few years later we discovered it was causing a problem on his credit history so we asked for a note to be included confirming the debt was paid. This is still haunting him, he applied for a connect debit card last week and was turned down!!! how can we loose this noose from around our necks?Cats have 9 lives, we only get 1 so live a little! :rotfl:0

I have recently recieved a copy of my credit file from Equifax. It was a real eye opener to how many credit cards I actually have! Really pleased I requested it as I have been wrongly finacially linked with an old flatmate.
On a down point, Equifax have been really difficult to get hold of for enquires. E-Mails returned coz adress no longer exists, not able to log-on to website so can't access information and 0870 telephone number was 10 minutes on hold. Grrr.Bubblesunshine0 -
I have recently applied for a current account with Halifax and was turned down!!!
I have a credit score of 892. Surely the criteria for a current account isnt that strict is it?0 -
I'm not very knowledgeable on this subject and need some help. Does anybody know how long something will stay on your credidt file and how long it would take me to get my scoring up to a good standerd . I haven't yet sent off for my file, I'm a little scared, i've been really stupid in the past and would like to get on track with my finances, need to start thinking about my fufture. Thank you0

Any recommendation for a person who's not a UK or EU citizen, in terms of my credit report? Obviously the first thing people do is ring up and be sure they are on the Electoral Register. Well, I looked into it, and because I'm from the US, obviously I can't get on.
Having said that, I have had a bank account here for about 4-5 years, and I've even successfully received credit cards (barclaycard, but i'm with barclays, so that's a given, egg and morgan stanley in the past year.) However, about a month ago I applied for the Lloyds TSB (when it had 12 months 0% balance transfers), and I was refused.
I'm trying to think what I can do to put myself in a better position. Although perhaps banks like Lloyds TSB are stricter? I can't do Texaco now, because they're thru the same bank.
I actually just applied for Virgin, so we'll see how that goes. (I know I should've gotten my credit report first, but I'm in a bit of a rush to transfer a balance.)
Any suggestions would be much appreciated...0 -
Relative was made bankrupt and discharged over 10 yrs ago (buisness, not personal debt). Has had no real problems since then, wife obtains credit etc. Recently applied for Barclays bank A/C and on the form, it asked if he had ever been bankrupt. He was honest and was refused a bank account, despite regular income.
I have done lots of research re bankruptcy web sites to see how long people can legally refuse those who have been bankrupt but the information is not out there. What I have found out is that if he had stated that he had never been bankrupt, he is likely to have got away with it because it is apparently not held on your record for that long.
It seems that bankruptcy is a black hole, you never know what is involved until it is too late. Basic advice is available but any more has to be paid for, catch 22 for those in that position. As my brother has found, it is often the long term implications that there is little advice on.
Unless of course,anybody knows differently......

I sympathise, Iglimpse. As you say, he seems to have been "punished" for telling the truth, but then you have to be truthful on application forms to avoid problems in the future.
He should be able to open a basic bank account and possibly have this upgraded for "good conduct". There's a list of banks that will offer basic accounts to former bankrupts here

LouiseW wrote:i've just recieved my experian report after being refused for an bbey joint account. I already have a graduate account with them. hopefuly this will be sorted out as the problem seems to be with my graduate account as i didn't pay any money in for 5 months but have paid wages in since Jan. (in another thread)
anyway my point is i have noticed a catalogue that is £10 in credit and a store card £3 credit. i don't use either of these anymore, is there any way i can get this money back? and would it be worth contacting other settled store cards and ensuring they are cancelled rather than just not used accounts?
thanks
I noticed this post back in page 8 and there was no reply - does anyone know the answer to this, as I have 2 accounts in Credit and I'd prefer to have the money in my pocket rather than theirs?
Thanks in advance!0
