It's difficult to help without knowing a bit about your mum. What are her interests? And what's your price range?
Whatever you do, don't get something "useful" (no ironing boards, hoovers, kettles etc!) - make it a treat.
Voucher for a visit to a day spa?
Subscription to a magazine/journal?
Does she like music/books/films? There's what looks like a fabulous box set of all the Jane Austen DVDs just been issued (Colin Firth in that scene with the wet shirt, etc etc)
Mums often spend time trying to give subtle (occasionally not-so-subtle) hints just before Christmas - talk and listen to her!0 -
May not be your Mum's thing but theatre tickets and tea at a posh London hotel always go down very well with my Mum. Costs a bit but she will appreciate it, especially spending time with you if you go with her.

I am making mum a 'take it easy' kit - got her a cushion from Dunnes which says something about the joy of being a grandparent all of the pleasure none of the pain, an eye mask from poundland, and a few other little goodies.
One year I took mum to see the sound of music on stage on boxing day, it was fantastic but we both cried :rolleyes:Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

I think the best present I have ever found for my mum, was taking her to a concert, after thinking about what she'd like, took her once to a Clannad concert in The Royal Albert Hall and once to BBC Proms in the Park (picnic and all) both went down a treat.Celebrating 31 Years of Muppetry0

I love a book by my favourite authors but as I cannot rely on the family to get the right one - I order it myself on a special deal - wrap it and then look suitably delighted.
Do you know her favourite magazine because when you order a subscription some of them are offerring a free gift like perfume or a handbag.

Last year bought Mum some concert tickets. Turned out it was near my parents anniversary and so my Dad took her away for a weekend to spoil her.Baby Year 1: Oh dear...on the move

With being a DFWannabe - money is limited, however this year mum will be getting some flowers, and a 'memory jar'. The jar will be filled with 52 wondeful memories I have of us / her so that each week she can draw another memory out."A simple life freely chosen is a source of strength. one year i gave my mum a "gift note". this was a handwritten fancy card promising to treat her to a day out in the sales in january, with me buying her the bargains, up to a set amount. This worked out just great, as the royal doulton dinner service she was collecting at the time was dirt cheap in the sales, and for the same cost as i would have spent b4 xmas, she got far more goodies!
Extra bonus for mum was that she got me to herself for the whole day!
hope this helps!
p.s. find a dvd box or similar to put the note in, it will throw her off the scent when she sees the shape of the pressie on xmas morning!"It is not uncommon for slight acquaintances to get married, but a couple really have to know each other to get divorced." - Anonymous

like others have said, it's difficult to know without knowing your mum but some nice ideas are :
voucher for a facial or a massage or pedicure/manicure at a good salon somewhere nearby - I cant think of any woman who would NOT like this!
something thoughtful for the garden (if she has one and likes gardening!) - you can buy rosebushes with appropriate names (we got one on our Wedding Day called Wedding Day!)
good luck!Sick and tired of waking up sick and tired...
