You don't have to use a Barclay's branded reader - any reader will work with any card.0

Just read on OH's Barclays internet banking that they will now give you an option to log in without it. Good - I use mobile banking a lot and its a pain in the bum having to remember to carry it if I think I may need to log into it!*The RK and FF fan club* #Family*Don’t Be Bitter- Glitter!* #LotsOfLove ‘Darling you’re my blood, you have my heartbeat’ Dad 20.02.200

How do you actually do this?
Every time I sign in, I am still taken through the PINsentry procedure - doesn't seem to be any choice.
The "forgotten your card reader" link just tells me that I can "Log in with [my] 5-digit passcode/memorable word." - nice. HOW???0 -
look below where you enter the user name loginDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

Not sure what you mean.
First thing it wants is my Surname, then below that is a drop-down list for "Identification type" which contains only one option - that being "Membership Number".
Selecting this (I have no choice) brings up a new box asking for my Membership Number.
After entering that, I'm straight into PINsentry. No other options appear.
The link at the bottom "Forgotten your PINsentry card reader?" just takes me to a generic help page and gets me no further.0 -
I stopped using Barclay's online banking when they introduced the device, because it was too laborious.
Recently I decided to try starting again, so I popped into my local branch and said "I did have one a while back but I don't know where it is now". The cashier made a note and a shiny new one arrived in the post a few days later, free of charge.Mortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0 -
I walked into a branch of barclays and asked if I could have another reader to use at work rather than carrying mine around with me. They got one out and asked me to use the 'Identify' function and as soon as I showed them the resulting code they said 'Thats fine, you can keep it, we just wanted to make sure you were a customer'.
Must say though, of the card readers I've used, I do prefer the Barclays one. It seems better made than most.0 -
Having to use this card reader is a real pain in the backside, and is the reason I will shortly be closing my Barclays Current and Savings accounts, and reverting back to the Halifax.
As an aside, my reader packed up within two weeks of receiving it and they sent me a new one free of charge, and even enclosed a SAE to return the faulty one."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0 -
Hi,
I moved to Barclays a few months ago, not knowing the pinsentry was compulsory, I totally agree with you its the mose biggest annoyance known to man!
So I wrote them a complaint letter saying that in this modern day you shouldnt need a gadget to get onto your online banking and especially shouldnt have to use it to log into the iPhone web page, and they replied saying - "Your comments have been added to our customer feedback log and will go to all relevant departments" blah blah blah... (and now heres the good bit... )
We are, at present, phasing in the new Dual Access log in procedure. If you wish to log in, without PINsentry then you need to register as
under:
If you would like to create a Dual Access membership which will allow you to decide how you log-in, then you will need to set up a new 5 digit
passcode and memorable word.
Please log-in with your card reader and select the Customise My Site link from the 'I Want To' menu. You will then need to choose the 'Set up my
5-digit passcode and memorable word' option and follow the onscreen instructions to save your details."
I however dont see this menu yet ! If anyone else does please let me know!
Im glad BArclays have finally listened to everyone complaining about this stupid thing !0 -
Could you just not sign in using basic access?
