you CAN balance transfer MBNA to a Virgin card LOOPHOLE

  • The MBNA "family tree" is vast to say the least. Balance transfers are where you pay off another credit card. Whilst it's true you're not allowed to transfer directly from one MBNA card to another, you're encouraged to do a Money Transfer to your current account. What you do with the money after that is your own business. It's not a loophole, it's just common sense.

With regards the number of cards you can have, just check out the MBNA website - the cards listed there are just the tip of the iceberg. I've not had the chance to count them all, but I believe the number of separate cards offered by MBNA are easily more than 100, offering anything from reward points to discount vouchers to airmiles to point-of-sale discounts to free gifts etc etc. And YES, you CAN have more than 1 MBNA card at a time. I should know, I've got 3.

Not wholly related but my recent experience is that MBNA dont let you have more than 1 card in their family.

I have a v good credit rating and wanted a football card for no other reason than it's got my team's logo on it. Have already got a Virgin card, they said no dice, even called me to say sorry and could they flog me other stuff while I was on, but no extra card, even when I offered to split the limits so their overall risk would stay the same.

MBNA may not directly offer multiple card but you can have the MBNA card from different providers. My colleague recently got his 4th MBNA card, he got the amex one whilst he already has the virgin, MBNA(direct) and the Liverpool card. that too all with high limits.

well that was my personal experience.

maybe as I havent spent a penny on my virgin in 6 years and the only money they have had out of me is a succession of BT fees, they didnt want my business as all I wanted was the card for the footy logo and never have used it.
  • pault123, for the less discerning - try reading between the lines! Patronising, my foot! "What you do with the money after that is your own business" is the key phrase. Of course MBNA wants you to transfer your balance from one card to another, after all, they're getting the handling fee ... but you're obviously not allowed to transfer directly between one MBNA card to another, and they're obviously not allowed to tell you how to capitalise on the Money Transfer. Some people just don't get it...
