Any chance of getting back on topic instead of toxic?Eight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0

Certainly! Pink I looked at the two laptops in Tesco, in my sheep like opinion the Acer has a better keyboard and touchpad. The one you link to in Tesco direct seems to be £20 cheaper instore
Nope, take it back its the same price now I've checked on Tesco direct.
They also had this one instore..

card reader, webcam, 4 usb instead of 3, longer battery life but less spec and £20 more0 -
Farway,
What's toxic about sheep?
I know they emit a lot of methane which doesn't do wonders for the atmosphere but calling them toxic seems a bit excessive.
And, unbalanced though he is, I don't think even Donnie is actually toxic. (Yet.)

you'd now be better off living in one.

Does that idiot actually have any friends other than his Mac?
As far as having a mental breakdown goes....... a curious obsession with a particular brand of personal computer above all else.... that's unbalanced.
Strangely, people have a certain respect for someone who speaks his mind in front of the subject. In the same way that we have a certain distaste for people who are 'backstabbers'.
I'm not afraid of telling the truth and standing my ground if necessary.
For those who are bitter and twisted about my relaxed lifestyle..... they are just bitter and twisted.
You are just a pathetic specimen and a liar to boot.
I use my time to help people if I can, but I don't suffer fools gladly. Hardly anyone's description of unbalanced.
Whereas you feel compelled to butt into threads even if you have nothing to contribute. Could it be that your poor social skills are preventing you from learning to interact with real people?
Anyway, again it's clear that you have nothing to contribute, as the OP is NOT interested in an overpriced second hand Mac.
Back on topic, I would look to the future when purchasing a laptop.
Once you get one, you might start using it for things that you did not invisage before.
My girlfriend uses hers to listen to music and watch films and TV programs. She's gone from having a 5 GB a month download limit to 20GB and regularly exceeds it.
Initially she grumbled that she didn't want the laptop. I can assure you, now she wouldn't be without it.
Acer seem to have a different product line here in Thailand. In the UK, there are larger screens, smaller hard drives and less add ons.
In Thailand, smaller screens, larger hard drives, built in webcams, Bluetooth, card readers etc
Bought one for my girlfriend and she is very happy with it, more than a year later.
It seems to me that these laptops have something missing without the built in webcam(you are sure to chat or use Skype or similar at some point) and Bluetooth(for transferring photos and videos taken with your mobile amongst other things.
Edinburghlass's suggestion is a step in the right direction.
So keep an eye out for those things in the best value for money package.
Just makes for a good all in one solution. Otherwise you could end up have to fit a Bluetooth dongle and a separate webcam and microphone....
Could end up making a mockery of having a laptop in the first place.
Don't rush into buying one, as the longer you wait, the more you will get for your money.0 -
It's worth bearing in mind, not least by the OP here, that this forum is not charitably provided by its philanthropic owner :A purely for the purpose of answering in isolation - for their own private, personal benefit - questions asked by the person who initiates a thread. That could be done by PM.
Rather, the ethic of MSE is that people who have a question should air it publicly, so that others who may be faced with the same problem can see all the various answers submitted in response to it and, hopefully thereby, the disparate knowledge contained in them will be shared by many people.
To that extent, for any OP to protest, petulantly or otherwise, that an answer submitted in good faith to the question they have asked is not what they themselves wanted to hear misses the point - and does so with great selfishness.
An OP has chosen to ask their question publicly and the answers it receives, publicly, may be helpful to others even if it does not suit the prejudices of the OP personally.
To view the process otherwise is to abuse the very principle upon which MSE is founded - and provided free of charge.
I am extremely grateful for everything I have learned in the various MSE forums from those who have kindly provided answers to questions submitted - even if the OP personally was too churlish to offer any thanks for them.
I have saved much money, myself, by following advice submitted by others to OPs who have turned up their own noses at it.
By the same token, I have offered answers, myself, to questions on subjects upon which I do have accumulated knowledge and many have been kind enough to indicate, publicly, that it was helpful to them - even if they didn't impress the OP.
That is the whole philosophy of Money Saving Expert - not to bail out individuals with a direct, short-term, spoon-fed handout but, instead, to empower everybody with the knowledge that they need to solve their own particular problems.
To fail to grasp that this is the objective of the person who provides this forum (at considerable personal expense) is to be boorish and extremely self-serving.
As for Donnie, I am sure that he has expressed enough of his own views for everyone to see the nature and degree of his personal afflictions. What is to be hoped (as was observed to me privately) is that his family is aware of them and will assist him.
Suffice it to say that I shall be abroad myself this coming weekend and will be taking my laptop with me for professional purposes - but I sure as hell will be out appreciating, and learning from, all that the local culture has to offer me, instead of spending my nights patrolling MSE looking for spam to report and people to abuse.

Suffice to say that I didn't bother to read the self serving claptrap written by Leopard and I would advise everyone else to save their time and to do the same.
It has nothing to do with the topic and should be ignored.0 -
Breathtakingly pompous Leopard, I'm sure Pink Winged will be sure to pass on to Martin her apologies for taking up some of his freely given bandwidth for daring to ask a question herself instead of spending her time answering the myriad of questions that she does on a volunteer basis.0

Hi Leopard,
In an attempt to keep this thread on topic I have tried to sit on my hands but I feel I should to respond to you.
I found your first reply on this thread vaguely amusing. Firstly, you don’t appear to have read my question properly and did not answer my query but attempted to persuade me that I needed something different and implied that I would be a mere sheep if I did not follow your lead. Even you must be able to see the irony in that.
When I replied to you, you proceeded to pick my post to pieces showing thinly veiled contempt for someone less knowledgeable than yourself. I have admitted that I know little or nothing about computers which is why I posted in the first place.Pink- Winged,
1. I like sheep and those of my suits that are not silk are made of wool.
2. You did not specify a budget. I may not have put it in so many words but looking at the examples of what I was thinking of buying it was fairly obvious what my budget was.
3. You did not specify an operating system. Once again, possibly a little subtle for you, but it was clear I was looking at vista.
4. You solicited opinions and suggestions of something better than what you were looking at: I gave of my time to give you some. Please read again in context. ''better, cheaper or more suitable for a basic user.''
5. The two computers to which I provided links ARE laptops. Sorry, my mistake…I did tell you I wasn’t up to speed on pcs and laptops.
6. If you are not of a mentality that would encourage you to think laterally and out of the box when exploring whether there might be something better than what you assume, you deny yourself the possibility of discovering something that is. How patronising!
7. The Mac operating system would give you a spelling-checker. As above.
I found your replies on this thread to be not only pompous but extremely patronising and mildly insulting. You have seemed determined to take this thread off topic and appear to have succeeded. I won’t even bother to dignify your last post with a response.
To everyone who gave very helpful and informative replies, I apologise for the turn this thread has taken. Thank you so much for taking the time to help me.

Leopard, I think the real problm with your post is that you didn't write it in a particularly nice way.
e.g. 'Only sheep buy pcs, but if you wanna be really cool, and not be a lame !!! then buy a mac. Macs are the best'.0 -

Sorry but the real problem with all of his posts on this thread is that they are downright rude, arrogant and offensive.0
