We,re going to Scarborough on Bank holiday Monday, can anyone reccommend a good fish and chip restaurant and somewhere very smart for afternoon tea?
Also, if ir rains, apart from the Sea Life Centre, is there any other entertainment 'under cover'?
Many thanks

Hi,
I think one of the best places for Fish & Chips is the the Golden Grid Fish Restaurant on the front, they are wonderful. Not the cheapest place around but very good & they won an award last year.
The sun is going to shine this weekend:D Scarborough Castle is worth a look if your intrested in that sort of thing.
Have a good day
FeefeeLife's what you make it.:j0 -
Another vote for the seafront here - plenty of chip shops along there. If you're there for more than one day, it's worth visiting Whitby for fish and chips. It's not far at all.
As for evening food, it depends on what you like. George Michael's on York Place is a very good Greek restaurant - can highly recommend that. The Scarborough Tandoori on St Thomas Street is also pretty good. Florio's Pizzeria is on Aberdeen Walk if you fancy that. Have heard good things about the Lanterna (Queen Street) but never eaten there so couldn't recommend it first hand. There's also a French restaurant I've had recommended - Le Chat Noir on Eastborough.0 -
It depends.
If like me you cant stand skin on your fish you are limited to about one. So make sure you ask before you buy.0 -
"The Coffee Bean". A little cafe that doesn't look much from the outside but is lovely and very popular on fridays when they do a tea-time special. It is right near the top entrance of Peasholm park (north bay). If you are stood at the top entrance then imagine an upside down triangle. You are stood at the point. To the left is a big hotel then the other corner of the triangle (to your right) is the cafe on the corner of a side street.0

Mother Hubboards is the best "restaurant" for fish and chips. The service is excellent and the food is totally scrummy. You have to go up some stairs to the restaurant though so no good if your mobility is poor. It's VERY popular so get there early!!0

You could have afternoon tea at "The Grand" or if it's a nice day overlooking the boating lake in Peashome Park. Have fun!0

Lived in scarborough since birth (21 years) and I would definately agree that Mother Hubbards is by far the best fish and chips in Scarborough, there is nobody close to quality and I have tasted most of them from been about 2 years old to present and worked in some as well, and I was a kitchen assistant at two already mentioned and behind the scene standards are somewhat poor. I'll not say where tho
Could go bowling at Olympia on Foreshore road think it about £4 each. Or use the 2 for 1 offer at Sea life centre
For evening meals I would recommend George Micheals on York plaice
Florias Italian on Aberdeen walk, Go between 5 - 7 for "Happy hour" and get any Pizza or Any pasta for £4.95. Me and my gf frequently go and have a full meal each and a drink and it never costs more than £12 all together
The pier cafe is another great little spot for breakfast or dinner, with its excellent harbour views you can sit and watch the boats etc.
Have a good time here, whenever you do come that isLive for what tomorrow has to bring, not what yesterday has taken away0 -
Not been to Scarborough for years, used to go there for conferences in the 80s and 90s. But it's one of the few decent seaside resorts. We never really used restaurants in the evening as we were 'corporate' but I certainly recall some good fish & chip places at lunch times.
I always made sure that at least once on each visit I got myself a dressed crab from one of the kiosks and ate it on the prom. Absolutely gorgeous!
I also recall we had a regular pub that served excellent real ales. It was called the 'Hole in the Wall' and we had some fabulously drunken late nights in there. Is it still there?0 -

It is indeed! Fantastic little pub. Always spend a good few evenings in there on our trips up to Scarborough!0
