  • Just to clarify that the harness on the Britax Evolva 123/123 Ultra can NOT be used over the weight of 18kg . The harness has been tested to the maximum weight of 18kg and anything over and your child will not be protected as the harness could snap .

There are only 3 seats on the market that have harnesses that go over the 18kg mark . They are the Britax Elite , Britax Junior Traveller and the Britax Junior Traveller Plus . The latter 2 seats are classed as special needs seats although all 3 seats looks exactly the same . The harnesses on the Elite and the Junior Traveller go up to the weight of 25kg (approx 6yrs old) and the Traveller Plus goes up to the weight of 36kg (approx 11-12 yrs old) . http://www.babyequipmentcomplete.com/products_database.htm This company sells the Elite at the moment for £50 (just search at the top for Elite) , well worth the money if you have a chunky monkey like I have , I wish I had seen this offer last year before paying out £120 on the Junior Traveller from Boots . Basically this is the only option you have in car seats with a harness for kids weighing over 18 kg , I know as my DD2 was 20kg at 2 years old and I had to buy her a new seat .
Baby Thomas born 3 months early by emergency section on 21/1/09 weighing 1lb 15ozs .
Thomas came home after 3 months and 2 days in hospital weighing 5lb 15ozs
    Thomas weighed 21lb 4ozs on his 1st birthday , a total weight gain of 18lbs 5ozs !
  • We have a Britax Evolva 1-2-3 and our daughter is 19kg and 120ish cm tall and 6 1/2 and only just about to come out of the harness right now. You don't have to take the harness away just because they are 18kg, you can use it until they are too tall to fit in the harness. The 18kg is just a guide as most children weigh that much or more before they get too tall for the harness so what Britax mean is that the MINIMUM WEIGHT WITHOUT HARNESS must be 18kg but you can keep it on if your child is still small enough to fit into the harness.

Copied and Pasted from Britax website , Seat is used with a 5 point harness (from 9 to 18kg) and a lap and diagonal seat belt (from 15 to 36kg)

Clearly states harness to be used only up to the weight of 18 kg .

Hi, Im glad you asked this, as im beginning to look into this aswell.
Now looking at the Britax site they have the evolva ultra 2/3 and a kidfix (previously the britax evolva ultra) so now I am confused. Whats the difference? Do you know?
Also what the best price you are getting coming up for this?

    Thanks

I ordered the Britax 2/3 - I think this is different to the 123? And doesn't come with the harness. The one I ordered is isofix as well.

I ordered from Boots.com for 103.99 (not the cheapest I found it - but I found a promotional code for 'baby' - 500 points for each £50 spent. Total points 1415 - saving for Xmas!!)
  • I stand corrected. Britax told me clearly when I bought the seat which was only a few weeks after it went on the market that the Evolva 123 was safe for children over 18kg with the harness.

I would ring them and ask them what the hell they were playing at telling you that ! You have potentially put your child at risk every time you have put them in that seat due to them giving out incorrect information .
