Hi I'm not sure if Harrods still do it, but the first weekend in Novenber when Father Christmas arrives there use to be a big parade around the store to announce Santa's arrival. From about 7.30am they always use to have jugglers, magicians, stilt walkers entertaining the crowd, staff use to go up and down the street handing out coffee and mince pies for the adults and ornage juice and sweet for the children. There was always fake snow being blown onto the area from above and it was always a lovely day. We didn't have to book to see Santa but there was always a mad dash at 9am to get to the 3rd floor and queue. Really worth going to see if you live or are visiting at this time ( I'm sure Harrrods customer services will tell you if its still on). Unfortunately my children are now lanky teenagers and don't believe in Santa anymore.

ASAIK, Hamleys still do the fake snow? Well they did last year anyway? started about 5/5.30. It's quite wonderful, reminded me of Disney! :D

Also think I read somewhere about Harrods opening parade last year earlier on whilst looking for info regarding grotto?

Im very tempted and it sounds fantastic, but i think at 19 i might not get away with it so much now. The Winter Wonderland looks fantastic!
I hate to mention Christmas at this time, but when you see things like this i cant help getting a tiny bit excited :rotfl:.

Just read this on the FAQ's... (the flip flop/shorts thing is gonna be a bit of a bind - spesh in December!!! ;))

Does Harrods have a dress code?
We aim to make shopping at Harrods pleasurable in every respect. To achieve this we operate a dress code, which has been widely welcomed by our customers.

The Dress Code does not permit any person to enter the store dressed in the following manner: wearing high-cut, Bermuda or beach shorts; swimwear; athletic singlets; cycling shorts; flip flops or thong sandals; with a bare midriff or bare feet; or wearing dirty or unkempt clothing.
  • And for those interested in the opening parade... (Phew, I am a busy bee this morning!!! :D)

"When is the ‘Once Upon A Time Parade'?
The fairytale Once Upon A Time Parade will take place on Saturday 1st November 2008.

This year we are celebrating a century of Father Christmas at Harrods (1908-2008).
To mark this unique relationship, the Harrods 2008 Christmas Parade will be a special Once Upon A Time Parade.

This magical event starts at 8am outside the store. Best viewing is from Basil Street, where the parade arrives at approximately 8.30am. The wonderful, timeless and romantic story of Cinderella will form the centrepiece of performance and of course you can meet Mrs Christmas and the Great Man himself.

Father Christmas will be greeted by Mr Al Fayed, Chairman of Harrods, before taking his residence at the Grotto Experience on our fourth floor - where you can visit him until 24th December."

If only I could get there that early.....Would love to see that. :(
  • Oh that sounds lovely! But I'm going in December and don't want to go twice. The thought of Mr Al-Fayed greeting Father Christmas really makes me giggle for some reason. He looks like he would make a good Father Christmas himself :rotfl:
