How I got upgraded to First Class on train
Comments
-
I was travelling on my own with a baby who was 4mths old. I couldnt reserve a seat as if something had delayed us (as babies often do!) we would have missed train and been refused travel on closed return ticket so I had to leave it open ended. As soon as I got onto the platform it was packed (My dad was panicking about letting me on the train) I positioned myself near where first class was coming in and made damn sure I got a seat. The aisles and gangways and doors were packed.
When the guard muttered that your ticket isnt valid in first class and I would have to move I said quite firmly but politely.....Are you going to be able to find me a seat elsewhere on the train because if you arent I'm not standing with a tiny baby in my arms.
He just muttered em no its alright you can stay. The fellow passengers were all very kind and said before the guard came that there was no way they would let him move me. Luckily my little one was good as gold and didnt cry once in 4 hours!!0 -
Seats aren't mentioned, but it does say "and the standard class accommodation on the train is full". It's a matter for debate as to whether, with all seats taken and there being standing room only, standard accommodation could be said to be full. I'd be happy to argue all day that it was
.
It is not a matter for debate, as you are not entitled to a seat - fact. You could argue all you want, but you would not get anywhere.0 -
Everything is always a matter for debate. You proved that by responding to the previous message.
Nice selective quoting which adds nothing to the discussion
What I said is correct and still stands. It is a fact that you are not entitled to a seat just by having a ticket. There is no point arguing against it (sorry 'debating' against it) because it is fact.0 -
TBH, 1st class isn't what it was since they started making the off-peak fares cheap. I've been on '1st' class from London to Glasgow at weekends and it's been bedlam with screaming kiddies, tsch-tsch-tsch from mp3 players and peeps noshing on stinky McSnacks0

Talk about selective quoting and changing the topic to fit your argument! Would you like to point out in my original post where I said that anyone was entitled to a seat?0 -
A ticket does not guarantee you a seat, period.
A ticket only guarantees you to get from Point A to Point B on your ticket by whatever means the railway deems necessary, be it a train, a bus or a taxi.Ex-Employee of a Train Operating Company.

u were still economy then... still a carriage full of people. yes u got wider seats n that but u didnt get the 1st service OR the quietness.
if i was one of the late people to get on the train and were allowed to sit in the declassified part i wouldnt, purely because i would still ahve to sit with said standard people, with their said noise. first class is generally quiet n nice.0 -

When I pay for first class when I do London to Liverpool, then they declassify the train due to overcrowding in standard and everyone comes and sits with me for free. Why don't I get offered a refund of the extra I paid when that happens? Bah!
I pay good money not to have to sit with the rabble.
but they dont get the service of 1st PLUS you can still use the other parts that are nice n quiet.0
