Well as he likes paper why don'y you shred your old newspapers and use that. It's cheap, saves money and he might just start doing it right :D

One of my cats used to do that too - I never did find a solution.

Have you tried cleaning the area around his tray thoroughly - carpets etc as cat pee is quite strong, he can maybe smell it and associate it with his toilet - also don't use bleach, it can also remind cats of their urine.

I had trouble with the kittens pooing under the bed for a while and accidently used windolene instead of disinfectant - they never did it again - don't know if that's the reason why, but I'm happy :rotfl:

Thanks for all of your suggestions.
I am thinking of buying the litter that is made out of paper or whatever it is.
I don't have enough newspaper to tear up so would have to buy it, plus it's not as hygenic.

I have cleaned the area thouroughly with a product called natures miracle which gets rid of stains and odours, I knew not to use bleach or disinfectant!

If all else fails I'll just have to live with him weeing where he shouldn't! Ho hum!!

I have a similar problem with one of my cats, although he is a tom cat so his pee smells awful :(

He will use the litter tray when he feels like it but other times he just goes where he wants

I've found the litter he likes best is one made from wood pellets and when it gets wet from pee it disolves into sawdust. I've also found he prefers it when it is very clean, have to change it every couple of days, and yesterday when i changed it he even went and laid in it as a bed  That was before he had used it i must add :o

The other cats are fine and i usually change their trays about one a week.
    Errrr...come back later ;)

I've also had cats since I was a little girl so I'm no stranger to their habits!

The door is left open most days for him to come and go as he pleases so he doesn't use the tray during the day - just at night and when I'm out.

Wesker - I agree our cat is a Tom too - we have 3 females as well - and the Tom's wee stinks to high heaven.
It is looking more and more likely I will have to get some other litter and change it more often!
It's jsut frustrating that he has suddenly decided to be more fussy than usual!

Is he too old to have neutured? They can be done when they are older, not just as kittens, but if he is set in his ways then it may be too late anyway :(

Mine isnt a full tom as such, he was neutured as a kitten but they could only find one testicle, even after intensive surgery, so he is basically a tom cat

My parents had him neutured as a kitten!
I think I'm stuck with him and his habits!
    Blinking males :D:D:D
  • If you don't manage to find a solution that stops him weeing around the tray then you could try using puppy pads under the trays. You can buy them in packs of 100 for £25 delivered, much cheaper then the ones from Pets at Home.
