In a village in between Chester le Street and Stanley.

It's a lovely road from Newcastle to Consett - some really pretty villages that way.
Here I go again on my own....

Yeah - we love it here. Your area's lovely too. I used to cut over the back roads through Stanley to get to the A1 at Chester - le - street when I used to travel that way to work. Much nicer than sitting in traffic by Team Valley!!!
I'd rather be a could-be if I cannot be an are; because a could-be is a maybe who is reaching for a star. I'd rather be a has-been than a might-have-been, by far; for a might have-been has never been, but a has was once an are – Milton Berle

Oh, I wonder if Butterby's would deliver to me! I too live in a little village just outside Stanley (small world:D) but I'm on the other side towards Consett.

I was born and grew up in Durham City. Love the countryside and all the little villages round there, and am constantly tempted to jack it all down here and move back.

Beamish is brilliant! Have you been there since they made the tram line go all the way round? I went back there last year when visiting my mum, and ran into somebody I was at school with, making bread in the manor (which is also quite new :D !

I love Beamish. I took my boys a couple of years ago and we spent the whole day there. I wanted to get married there, but the fee was very very expensive, so we couldn't afford it :(

My Grandad was an insurance collector in the days when a man came round for your weekly payment. One of the colliery houses belonged to a lady he collected from, and the family gave the contents of her house to Beamish when she died. He was amazed at how accurate the inside was, and he said you just expected her to walk out with a teapot and plate of biccys!

It is worth a call to see if Butterbys will go up to Stanley. The food is really really good and we're really enjoying it. You always get potatos, carrots, something green and half a dozen eggs. The rest varies from week to week. I also like it as it all comes in a cardbord box which is collected next time for re-use, so there's no waste plastic trays or bags.

A few years ago, Beamish bought the cast-iron structure of Durham's old bus station (now on its second refurbishment since said structure was demolished). They were going to recreate it in the "Town" but it still hasn't happened :( .

When I was 10/11-ish, my aunt and uncle were "Friends of Beamish" and my cousins got to be pupils at the Colliery school at weekends - I was sooooo jealous! I've sung in the Chapel though - with the Methodist church choir I used to sing in (I've never actually been a Methodist :o )

The potatoes my mum got the week I was up there in May were GORGEOUS! The most interesting-tasting potatoes I have ever had, I think.

    OOOOOOH I MISS DURHAM

Back for a few days 27-31 December though :j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j

With my old junior school being super close to beamish we often had trips to "work" at the museum. We got to dress up and play :D

My grandad was a heating installer, way back in the 60s and he did the heating for pockerly manor when it was privately owned, and my mam used to play with the girls who lived there!. Grandad discovered a secret room at the manor which the musuem later re-discovered.

I feel a MSE trip to beamish coming on in the summer :D
