Network Card fault - Broadband provider

There is another possibility; if the DHCP server at the ISP changed its MAC address (i.e. they changed the equipment/routing) then it's possible the DHCP client on your modem is still trying to find the old DHCP server and not recognising the new one yet.
We had this when we changed a firewall to make it a 2 paired firewall system to protect against failures (2 firewalls in redundant mode created a virtual MAC address instead of the physical MAC address) and for the next 24 hours it caused no end of problems until the change filtered through the DNS servers (which we weren't in control of outside our network). Next time we know to do this kind of work during quiet times, not expecting it to make such an impact - live and learn etc....A friend is someone who understands your past, believes in your future, and accepts you just the way you are.0 -
Hi,
It sounds like your TCP/IP stack has crashed. If you are using windows XP there is a program you can use called XPwinsockfix google it and it should solve you problem. Its a very simple, and will only take 5 minutes to fix.
This is a common fault, i believe there might be a vista version of this but i try not to come in contact with a vista machine if i can lol0
