However, I did struggle with the lifestyle, usually due to my unwillingness to get absolutely blaggered of an evening or engage in naked room (you can't get away with naked bar at Cranwell).
I did spend a few months in a rather lovely officers mess at RAF Waddington, where everyone living in the mess was out of phase 2 training. it was completely different and I never felt under pressure to live the 'party lifestyle', same thing when I went to Shawbury for a bit. At Waddington you could drink as much as you wanted or as little. As long as you actually went to the social events/drink down the bar/night out in Lincoln, people didn't care how much you drank/if you got naked (which no one did anyway. I really would encourage your daughter to stick at it if it was me. People on her course just probably haven't gotten out of the IOT mentality yet.
It seems that getting naked is a bit of a theme. In 21 years I have not come across this (excuse the pun). Getting absolutely 'blaggered' of an evening during IOT is also new - is that why you 'biffed' off? You seem to keep mentioning drink/going out getting drunk. This happens but it is purely by choice. If you don't want to get involved don't. If you do then people will expect it. I have never had pressure (nor pressurised someone) to do this. Nor have I seen this happen either................"Success is not to be measured by the position someone has reached in life, but the obstacles he has overcome while trying to succeed." Booker T. I don't know what contact you've had with Cranwell, or how recent but there's a big theme on some sqns lately of it being an extension of the university lifestyle (or replacement in the case of DE's). It also varies from Sqn to Sqn, some are really sedate. As for the whole people getting naked thing, i've witnessed people doing the following naked, having only been in 2 years: running round the CHOM 'orange', running around the No.1 parade square, running THROUGH chom from one wing to the other, while doing NBC drills, just in someone's room for no good reason. I wasn't making it up. Count yourself lucky you haven't come across it, I wish I hadn't - but then I was told I was a total prude for not going along with it.
All I know is that on mine, people pushed me to drink more than I wanted and got upset when I didn't. OK, maybe I didn't have the strength of character to not let it get to me - maybe I shouldn't have been there at all. But it's my business.
As for being 'biffed off' - I mean injured. Not drink related. Being medically discharged mid next month.Trying to only spend money when I absolutely have to.Barclaycard: £4559-1500 = £3059 (Will have £900 to add to that end of September)Loan from Friend = £20000 -
What on earth has this drivel got to do with money saving? Save it for ARRSE0

My opinion on the thread starters question was challenged.... I had to defend myself!

Ranks junior and senior to her respond excellently to her, it is just her peers that she has difficulties with.
Sounds the perfect officer material to me.
There are idiots in all walks of life so I guess this is about wether she can put up with her peers until the next stage of her training/career or not.
My only experience in this is as an ex army brat (10 years served) and worse (the shame of it!) 5th generation cannon fodder who failed to enlist. However I met alot of very immature junior officers and some very mature "lower" ranks. Oh and some lovely genuine top notch officers - it was the junior stage that made me wonder about the theories of evolution:rolleyes:
So if it's what she wants to do in her heart tell her to stick at it as I'm sure she'll go along way (and not via the suspect rashes clinic).
Getting blaggered and running around naked is obviously not going to be alot of use to anyone on active service. I can understand that someone coming back from active duty might resort to this to let off steam but from my experience they have more important matters to deal with. As for Cranwell - sounds like there's a whole new generation of Rodneys and Ruperts out there. Cue the black adder music and over the top we go_pale_0 -
Agree with the posts above, I hated basic and continuation training as it seemed to me like I was in some sort of youth club where the loudest people were always the most popular but once I got to my real unit, people's real personalities came out and I started to really enjoy it. It may take a few years but it's worth it in the end0

As the original poster, thank you to all you lovely people who have replied.
My daughter has continued with her training and as it is a different phase she has found it more interesting.
The others on the course seem less inclined to "poke fun" at her, possibly as the course is more demanding than the previous phase.
They seem to have short attention spans and got bored, so poked fun at her during the previous phase.0
