Stupid expensive contract - any ideas on how i can escape?

Hello everyone

I’m hoping this isn't a lost cause.

I’m currently on an orange contract; I think I’m a raccoon 30. My bill is usually around £30-35 per month. I've just spoken to Orange to see if there's any way I can reduce it.

I knew I was a very low user and the customer service rep said I use on average 35 minutes of voice and 20 odd texts per month and that I would be far better off having a pay as you go. Which is fine by me.

Here’s the problem. I’ve stupidly and blindly entered into a v long contract. I am 10 months in to a 21 month contract (I think this came about as I upgraded my handset 3 months early as it was broken).

Does anyone have any idea how I can get myself out of the next 11 months of my contract? I have no friends or family who want to take it over. Apparently buying oneself out costs £100's and would therefore be of little benefit. I'm open to a spot of light insurance fraud but is this wrong? or even possible (i have no insurance at present)? any other less morally suspect ideas would be gratefully received.

Thanks all X

If you look the word up fraud on Google, you will find out that "Yes" it is wrong, The sort of Fraud I presume you are saying is reporting the phone stolen, selling it and getting a replacement one. Well once the phone is reported Stolen it will be blocked straight away and be cut off making it useless. If you do report it stolen, you have to get the police involved to get a crime reference number for any insurance company, can you see how bigger hole you will be digging. You did sign upto this contract so why did you get one that costs so much for your so little usage ? The whole point of this Forum is for people to ask how they can spend as little money for there needs, not to ask if they should commit a crime to pay for something they accepted. I'm sorry for sounding so harsh, butr I doubt you will get any help on here when such Stupid questions are asked.

Don't they owe you another phone then? A broken handset should be replaced not upgraded - irrespective of when it happens.

yes, i understand, you are both absolutly right. It's wrong and not the sort of thing i would usually consider, thank you for the correction and i take that bit back (i don't think there's anyway i would have anyway, even if it was possible which i doubt)

so that bit cleared up does anyone have any other ideas?

If you sell the handset you currently have that will take some of the expense away and just buy yourself a cheap handset.
  • can you not just change your priceplan like i can do with t-mobile?
