Have heard people say that Apple give extras sometimes such as an Ipod to students when purchasing from them.
Have just had a good quote for a Macbook pro 2.4 ghz from the education store of £1104. I was going to go for a refurb but that would be £1109 so just £5 difference!
He also said that the applecare was £58 at student price but would not apply for a refurb and would be £220 so that sounds worth doing also.
Anyway, I asked about any extras and he said no, that they kept the price down instead. I was hoping for a nice Ipod thrown in! Thought I'd read on here that students were getting them?
Thanks for reading

Any reason why you need/want the PRO?
The refurb store has a standard Macbook, 2.4ghz, 160gb HDD, 2meg RAM (potential up to 4meg), Intel Duo-core, Isight and some good software... £699.

Granted only a 13" screen, but i'd be ok with that for the saving!:A Luke 6:38 :AThe above post is either from personal experience or is my opinion based on the person God has made me and the way I understand things. I spoke to the uni my son is going to (the pc is for a design course he is doing) and they recommended a 15" screen. Though I thoroughly agree, that is a much better price!0

Do you really need a £1100 laptop when you can get a 20" iMac for just over £700 (£709 I think it is)?
Alternatively you could probably get the MacBook with an external 20" display for less than the MacBook Pro.0 -

The Free Ipods are just special offers from time to time. They are not doing it at the moment.
My brother got one when he brought his iMac last year plus a 13% discount:D
It might be worth you waiting a month or 2 as apparently the new Macbook Pro's and Macbooks are rumoured to be unveiled and released in September.
So you could go for the new ones or get the one available now possibly even cheaper.0 -

I wonder when in Sept they will do this as he is leaving around 19th.
Hoped to have it sorted before then ideally.
He could get an Imac but he wants the portability of the laptop for in and out of uni and for coming home. Plus there is some peace of mind bringing it with you as opposed to leaving in halls during holiday time or weekends home.0 -
Check if the 13" screen will do then? The one I added the link to on the refurb section has sold already! But worth checking to grab a fully (extendable) warrentied bargain from Apple. For a 2.1ghz version with smaller HDD there was one on there for £550ish...?:A Luke 6:38 :AThe above post is either from personal experience or is my opinion based on the person God has made me and the way I understand things. Unfortunately there is no concrete date.

In regards to the Macbook screen, I recommended your son pop down to a Apple store or PcWorld or Comet and get a hands on look at the screen size.
I was looking to buy a Macbook until I saw it in the flesh and thought the screen was too small. He maybe better off getting the Macbook Pro or iMac espesically for design courses.0 -

awwwwww... want one now:o
I can't believe I have to wait so long.. I've been waiting for 3 months so far (the money is in the bank!!!) and my pc is so slow I can have a nap and a cup of tea.. then I've forgotten what I was doing so give up!
the mac rumor site says the US students are getting a free ipod touch thrown in.. wouldn't mind that for free so it's worth holding on!
I'm just looking at wacom tablets too... guess I'll have to wait for that... might as well get it all in one go...
The day I finally get the iMac, Wacom tablet and educational software is the day I pass out with excitement!
