Advice - Non Delivery after 6weeks from ARGOS

I wasnt sure whether to post this in the Argos Board or here, so please move to where you think I'll get more answers.
I placed an online order with Argos on Tuesday 8th July, and paid in FULL, for 2 new beds, as I'm moving the kids into their new bedrooms. Its catalogue number 665/9228, Malibu maple cabin bed. In the catalogue (which was still the old catalogue when I ordered) it stated 'usually delivery within 14days'. But when I ordered online it said delivery within 28days. fair enough, as I was having fitted wardrobe fitted, so thought within 28days would be fine, and the kids will be in their new bedrooms for the Summer Holidays, and be settled in before they return to school.
Anyway, delivery was supposed to be before Tues 5th August. So on Tues 29th July, I called them up, so check the status of the order, as 3weeks had passed, and the woman advised me that the beds had still not been received into their warehouse from the manufacturer, and that it was still possible to get the beds delivered before 5th August. Before I called them, I checked online to see that they were now stating 'within 21days' delivery.
Then on Sat 2nd August, only 3 days before beds were supposed to arrive, I get a letter in the post, stating that there is a delay from the manufacturer, and the beds are expected in their warehouse on Sun 17th August.
So I called them up yesterday evening (Mon 18th) and they said there was a problem with the order, something to do with the catalogue number????
Since I ordered the new catalogue has come out, and the price per bed has gone up £30, but the catalogue number remains the same.
Anyway, the lady I spoke to yesterday, said the order was re-raised Thursday 14th August, and takes 5 days to go through!! She couldnt tell me whether the beds were in their warehouse, and suggested that I called back on Thurs 21st Aug
Today is offically 6 weeks since I ordered and paid in full for the beds, and I'm not happy with the lack of communication from Argos.
Please advise what I should do, and if/who I should complain to.
I would have been tempted to ask for a full refund, and cancel my order, but I havent seen any beds similar anywhere else. Plus the beds have gone up £30 each in the new catalogue. Time is running out, and kids go back to school in 2 weeks.
Apologies for the spelling mistakes and poor grammar
Sorry for the long post, thanks for reading, and great if you can give me some advice.

After finding on here that Homebase and Argos are the same company. I visited the Homebase site, and surprise surprise the beds are in stock, and I can get them delivered Thursday AM!!!
Called Argos, and decided to use their stock availability option, and surpise surprise, was told that the beds wer in stock for £129.99 each, with £5.95 delivery.
I called back, and spoke to customer service, and told him i wasnt happy in being told the items was in stock, and he said that it was a problem with the component number, and he will chase up the re-raised order by email, and to call back tomorrow
Dont really want to cancel the order and re-order with Homebase, cos I will be forking out another £61!!!0 -
it might seem a pain but do you realy want to continue dealing with this company, so many ppl have had probs even after delivery.
cancel the order, go elsewhere, the kids will enjoy sleeping on the floor on matresses for a few weeks if need be.0 -
They are not the same company at all.
They are both owned by Home Retail Group so I guess you could say they are the same company...
As for the OP not to sure what to suggest maybe you should wait until you phone back and see what they say... did they ever actually confirm a delivery date with you?2020 Mortgage-Free Wannabes #20 £1495.03/£2760 OP0 -
they never confirmed an actual delivery date, just delivery within 28days.
I will wait one more day, and call them up tomorrow, and request next day delivery at no extra cost to me, its worth asking :rolleyes:0 -

No they may effectively have the same shareholder but that doesn't mean at all that they are the same company.
Many companies are owned by the same holding company (e.g. Kingfisher plc or many of the high street pubs and restaurants) but that doesn't mean to say that they have to offer the same products / prices.0 -

Thats just who owns them. They will be otherwise ran completely seperately.
Saying they're the same company is like me owning a Ford & a BMW and trying to say they're the same car.0 -

Fair enough... I just assumed it would be similar to Kingfisher when Woolworths used to stock B&Q's paint as they were all part of the same group and therefore would assume that if Argos have one type of bed it might be possible to get the same from homebase (as shown in this case)2020 Mortgage-Free Wannabes #20 £1495.03/£2760 OP0 -

Yes but at different cost and different delivery terms.0
