BMI credit card rip-off (EUR 12!!!)

 Ok, I need to rant

just bought a 1 way ticket from dublin to london and BMI charged me EUR12!!! for the transaction. The only card with no charge is a visa electron and a delta card.

They are just taking the mick. THere is NO way it costs them EUR 12!

  • Hmm..ryanair is charging me £4 per head ???that is blatent theft.
  • if anyone has the address / name of the agency that recently insisted that the low cost airlines publish fares inclusive of taxes, please put it here. I intend to complain. These charges are simply another form of revenue gathering, hidden from the passenger making cost comparisons opaque.

Ryanair doesn't charge for payment by Visa Electron either.

You have to play these low-cost airlines at their own game - get a Visa Electron card - AND check the T&Cs BEFORE you book.

    It's not
    blatent theft

As this is not a tax as such, I don't think you will get anywhere with your complaint.

Take a look at the Travel forum, the subject of charges for payment by credit/debit card imposed by no-frills airlines has been done to death on there.

I found this when booking flights the other week! Extortionate charge for a credit card, and still quite a hefty charge for a debit card!! I agree that it can't possibly cost them this much to process a card order, and is just a method of bumping up the ticket price.

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

I think you are missing the point here. The whole idea behind the EU rule about including all taxes with the price of flights is to make easy/fair comparisons between airlines i.e the price you see is the price you pay. The credit card surcharge in effect amounts to a "hidden" revenue stream for airlines.

The OFT in the UK has been making noise about utilities like BT/BGas who charge a disproportionate amount for customers who do not pay by direct debit, far in excess of the cost of the service. I don't often fly ryanair but I am fairly sure that at some point in the past, they offered a no/low cost maestro option.

No, you are missing the point. If you don't want to pay the fee then don't. Find another way to travel. Alternatively, get an Electron card.
