I didn't comment on your financial position, as like you said I have no idea. Just like I have no idea of any other drivers financial position, either blue badge holder or not-which is really the basis of my arguement. I also started by saying that I sympathise with you getting fined when parking regulations were changed and it not being made clear that this is the case.0 -

Because to get a blue badge, you have to be on the highest rate for mobility which usually gets you mid-high rate of care as well. In addition to that, most are also on IB or similar as well, get CTB and their rent paid.
For my SIL, it means a tidy income of £24000 a year NET, which is equivalent to someone earning £30,000 a year, and nothing to pay for the roof over her head.
So yeah, most blue badge holders are in a better position to afford it than many working people.0 -

That may apply to a few Blue Badge holders but certainly not all. Do not generalise please.
However, I do not think there should be free parking for Blue Badge holders per se. If they want equality with able bodied it works both ways. You cannot take all the benefits and ignore the liabilities that everyone else has to bear.0 -

Totally agree. And it looks like the OP did not bother to check if they could park there or not, regardless of checking changes in policy.0 -
Any council with an ounce of compassion would have given a grace period, where instead of ticketing vehicles they would have put notices on the windscreens (in the yellow envelopes so they don't get ignored) informing people of the change.0

I believe there is a legal requirement that any changes in charges have to be advertised by a sign for at least 1 month.
You should never assume its free! especially in the new GB!!0 -

Actually you dont need to get the highest rate of DLA to get a blue badge you are automatically granted one if you do. My daughter got a blue badge a year before she got DLA
I think most people who much rather not get DLA and have a normal life, I know my daughter would. The idea of DLA is to help people have normal lifes as much as possible. She gets £64 a week which goes towards care and transportation
As for DLA it is not easy to get it, it took 3 attempts for my daughter to get it even then they wouldn't pay her all the back pay she was entitled to despite appealing.Because to get a blue badge, you have to be on the highest rate for mobility which usually gets you mid-high rate of care as well. you should let all the disabled people know how you manage to get all that money! my mother is disabled and struggles all year round, and doesn't get anything like that!
As for the parking issue which this thread was about!!!! the council are bang out of order! they should put a polite notice on the windscreens to say this is enforced now, as when you have parked there for many years, and you don't know anything about these changes, it is a shock to get a ticket! and £35 is a lot to anyone! especially the disabled! Well all it means now, is more parking on the yellow lines causing more congetion around the towns! And one more thing tell me how the travellers get away with parking on the car parks and not having to pay the fee, bet they never got parking tickets! Oh and another the immagrants parking on middle market road on an evening, on double yellows! they never get a ticket! yet my brother got a ticket and he had a parking permit! what is that all about, has the council got preferances!, So its one law for one, and another for another! Looks like you are best off being illegal nowadays!!!!!!!!!!0 -
Why should the disabled be able to avoid the Law
They like every other motorist should be checking the driving laws in their area and complying by them
This wouldnt be worth a moan if it was a non disabled person who had been caught out0
