Thanks Coupon mad, I appreciate it.

One thing though, when browsing coupon net and coupon watch etc, how do I know which printable coupons are likely to work in Tesco and which ones not? Is it just by researching on here to see what people have said?

Yes, basically as a newbie you'd have to read what people have said, you'll soon suss out what's OK and what isn't. Most of those in the links on P1 of this thread are OK for Tesco (unless it says another store only or if they've gone out of date).

Long time ago I tried scanning coupons at ASDA but the machine embarrassed me by shouting that a CS was needed, and they opened the coupon box and rejected them for some reason! So I'm a bit nervy about this so i may use an out of town Tesco tomorrow to save my blushes somewhat!

That's why I said if using coupons avoid the self scan. It makes a new coupon user very flustered as the machine invariably calls loudly for assistance if you use more than about 3 mocs (depends on the store limit). And some mocs don't register and you end up blowing in the slot to no avail, so the Supervisor has to open the machine up. Avoid self scan, there's no need to feel embarrassed about handing mocs to a Tesco cashier (but choose a young smiley one for your own sake).

I'm thinking of trying this "mitchum" £1 one if I can find it on a small purchase of about £3-4 to start off with, if anyone has any advice it'd be greatly appreciated.

Yes, why not just try one at first, but IMHO your best bet would be to try a real coupon rather than a printable (some stores say no to printables and some are just ignorant and think they are photocopies). Why not buy a copy of New magazine at 80p and then turn to page 15 and tear out the £1.50 coupon and use that against your shopping?

The bit i'm most nervous about is the cashier embarrassing me by looking at me gone out when I go to buy a pasta salad but paying in part with a voucher for deodorant....

Yep, everyone is nervous first time with mocs, I remember feeling like the ground should swallow me up the first time I handed over more than one and saw the quizzical look on the cashier's face. Happily they scanned them anyway and I haven't looked back (apart from several run-ins with Supervisors and Managers but - if that ever happens to you - don't apologise or look guilty, instead look slightly surprised and stay calm & confident that YOU know their coupon policy even if the staff don't!).

Do pm if you want any more advice or get knocked back! But first rules are avoid the self scan and avoid a middle-aged lady cashier (they generally disapprove of their own policy and let you know it).

    OOPS
Sorry dd3 pressed button, anyway I just wanted to post to say that I am in shock as I actually had a Tesco staff member today who knew the company policy re mocs and it caused an uproar at the tills it was so FUNNY.

It was busy and I got moved tills to a middle aged female cashier, you know how it goes, handed over my mocs ( 6 in total for £5 ish on a £10 spend). I normally have no problems at this store, but the usual happened so she said she didn't know which ones she could take etc so she asked her till buddy who said she wasn't sure so then she asked the till person on the other side ( all 3 women of a certain age) none of them were sure but all were adament that I would not be able to use all of the mocs as I hadn't bought any of the products.
Between them they decided to call a supervisor and there was then a 3 minute wait and a long queue and the cashier kept saying you can't use all of them and I kept saying well pick the 3 highest not wanting to push it and she said no she would not as I would only be able to use 1.
Eventualy the supervisor got there ( he looked about 17) and she handed him my vouchers and said in a very loud voice that I wanted to use all of them but I hadn't bought any of the products and which ONE should she take. He took the vouchers walked away to acknowledge someone and was back in seconds to tell her that I could use all of them!!! Her face was a picture!!! and then she started to try argue with him!!! PRICELESS.

I wish I lived where you do both my Asda and Tesco stores have said that they have a new policy and that you are only allowed to use the moc if you purchase the product. I asked to have this checked and both the cashier and the person who looks after their department said the same. I am told this is being rolled out across the board and there is nothing they can do about it.

Coupon-mad could you please show me where the policy is so I can see for myself please and maybe get things changed back at my branches, many thanks.
Thanks for any help and advice given

Hi Nicky, the superviser quoted the policy word for word to the till person including the more than one coupon if you purchase the item part so I think he was pretty clued up on the official policy, but as most of my coupons tend to be internet prints I can see them being stopped in the future as Glasgow seems to be one of the few remaining areas that do accept them and it is up to the store managers at the end of the day. The policy is on the TESCO NO CHAT thread ( I think) if you are looking for it.

Tatler £2.80 was yesterday's paper. Easy £2.00 is for today's paper. Both scan at T.

If it is good enough for the T staffs, it is good enough for me to use as well.

Our local Tesco's takes most coupons but says for magazines and newspapers you have to buy the product. I just stick to Whisky, Mitchum, etc.
If at first you don't succeed, try, try, try - oh bu99er that just cheat :D

Hi all I found 2 x £2 vouchers for Walkers Crisps which I got when I complained to them a while back , do you think these would work in Tesco?
