Exclusive to Egg customers: All you need to do is ... spend at least $100 or €65 by 31st Dec from your new account to qualify. ... Spend criteria includes both cash withdrawals and purchases.

Hi - those who have done this would you say that today would be too late to apply for this and get the account opened before the deadline of the 15th October?

I won't have a problem spending (surely a $100 misc payment to my OH's paypal account in dollars would be sufficient?) There will be fees for receiving but these should be offset by the rebate from Citi :)

Does anyone know if a cheque purchase counts as 'spend' to trigger this offer?

good thinking - just write a cheque to yourself to your normal bank account and hope they don't charge you for paying it in?

How 'safe' is Citibank - how solvent?

I have some savings with Egg.

If it really is fee free it is worth it even if just for spending when travelling.

Citi's quarterly reports from December 2005 through December 2007, the latest report available.

Ok - finally got round to spending the 100USD - a 'purchase' from my OH via paypal in USD.

My cunning thought is to reverse the transaction (you get up to 60 days and all fees are also refunded) in about a months time after the rebate has been credited and all is done and dusted and forgotten about...

I notice the offer has been reinstated - I wonder if you can do it for both currencies - I sent Egg a secure message to ask, the useful response? 'Call customer services'...
    I think....

Can anyone who got the account credit comment on how long it took (still waiting after 'spending' on 29th Dec)

Haven't yet called Egg CS re doing offer for both USD and EUR as Egg account is in my wife's name and she doesn't really like calling up :(

Why don't you send a secure message? This way you have a reply IN WRITING too.
