What on earth had he spent it on??

Very good question, I cannot see any stuff anywhere. But to be honest he goes every year on Skying holiday to Austria, Cycling holiday (it was France this year) and on holiday with me for which he usually pays... So I think that might be it. He doesn't like to say we cannot afford something, so he rather pays by c/card.. We are going to Prague this weekend that I paid for as he paid for last holiday and it was the first time ever that he said "I cannot afford to go". So I said "now after my promotion is my turn to repay last year's holiday, so I pay" and he accepted. So I call the a progress!! We are on budget for out trip as I don't earn as much as him (and now he pays his debts off:-)) but he is happy with that. I know it doesn't add to 15k, but I think his holidays and then interest on the top of it accounts for loads of it.

    Great thread.

I'm in a similar situation, and looking to move out with the g/f into a 2-bedroom flat. I was always set upon the idea of having our own accounts plus a joint current account to cover all bills/household items and a joint savings account to save for a house deposit. The g/f is saying that she wants just one account for both of us, but I'm really not 100% happy with that.

Most people here seem to have the same setup that I was proposing, so hopefully we'll go with that!

Let's face it, if you only have 1 account, there is no surprise and no fun in receiving present really! You would know where the other one shopped and how much he/she spent on you... :rotfl:

I'd want to be very very sure that there's no gambling, alcoholism etc...

I knew someone who married a man who was a secret alcoholic and spent all their cash and got them into real debt over drinking. Weirdly he was a very moderate drinker around her but he worked shifts and would go and buy/drink a couple of bottles of vodka while she was at work. She genuinely knew nothing about it. Just to protect yourself I'd say have a dig and see...

sorry if being negative here and you know your own situation best but it does seem like a heck of a lot of money on hols. And how can he deal with the problem if he doesn't exactly know what got him there...

I am pretty sure he is not an alcoholic (my grandma was and I think I would know), but he migh be up to some silly investments or something like that. Which would be very bad. I found out that he has 3 c/cards where 0% promotion run out months/years ago, not doing anything with it like transfers to 0% deals and had SO to ISA which earned 5.5% pa while his c/cards lost 16.9% pa. I now fight to have a look at his statements every month (though he fights back) and I took all his c/cards of him. Hopefully we will be fine.
