Hi
I'm looking to switch to Sky Talk & BB (already have Sky tv), but wondered whether it was worth cancelling BT BB first? am out of contract with BT, but it seems to be difficult getting info from them on cancellations, unsurprisingly.
have read some of the negative stuff regarding Sky however cost wise seems to be the best option. have looked at BT Vision but I'm not sure it is as good as Sky+.
any advice on cancelling and where within BT to write to would be appreciated.
cheers, Mark

You will need to get a MAC or Sky cannot and will not take an order for adsl as BT will have their tags on your line.0

When we switched from AOL to O2 Broadband we got the MAC Code from AOL, then gave that to O2, We were swtiched to O2 Broadband, then finally we cancelled AOL.
I dont know whether they cut you off straight away when you cancel :S But anyway, the way we did made sure we werent without the Internet during the changeover.0 -
To get your MAC code off BT you will have to call them http://bt.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/bt.cfg/php/enduser/cci/bt_adp.php?cat_lvl1=346&cat_lvl2=401&cat_lvl3=402&cat_lvl4=403&p_cv=4.403&p_cats=346,401,402,403&p_faqid=9778
Quote from http://www.maccode.org.uk/how-to-request-mac-code/You don’t have to be afraid to request MAC code as your broadband provider must supply you the MAC code within 5 days according to the UK law. Have your home phone number ready or your broadband customer reference as the customer service will want to confirm your identity. Requesting a MAC code does not mean that your contract will be terminated. In fact, you should terminate your contract after you have arranged a new contract with your new broadband provider. In this way you will not have any major downtime on your internet connection. The majority of the UK broadband providers will send you the MAC code via the email in 24 hours. Once you have the code you can then switch to your new provider using theKind Regards

if you phone up bt to cancel you may get a good deal, i phoned on sunday to ask for my mac, when they asked me why i wanted it, i just said i am going to shop around for the best deal(really i was looking at aol just to get the free laptop), but anyway i never said anything about cancelling, but straight away they offered me the current package i am on free for 6 months, there new homehub(which alledgedly costs £90), and knocked of £2.71(i think) of my phone bill a month, so now i get free evening and weekend calls just for the price of line rental, really pleased i rung now, DaveTake every day as it comes!!0
