I want to get the internet at Home

Options
Hello,

I feel a bit like a dog chasing my tail, running round in circles and getting no where fast! I would like to get broadband at my new address, but I have no idea what type of deal would be suitable for me. I wanted Virgin media, but its not available in my area, so I am really confused.

I dont really want a home phone as I wouldnt ever use it, but dont mind getting a telephone / broadband package if its going to be cheaper. I just wont use the phone. However I am usure about certain packages, will i still need to pay BT line rental on top of this?

I might download maybe a dozen songs in a month, but think i might need unlimited downloads to look at photos or go on certain websites? Is that correct?

I am used to quite fast speeds, but not sure how fast they are. I had virgin broadband in my last shared house.

I basically want unlimited use of the internet, i.e no time resrtictions and ideally a deal under £20 a month. Eveyone keeps saying all the providers are the worst in the country, which doesn't really help me. Any advice would be gratefully recieved. (I was considering Orange)
Debt free since July 2013! Woo hoo! The bank actually laughed when I said I have come in to cancel my overdraft.

well dont use orange if you want good speed coz you wont get it

have you checked your exchange to see what BB providers are on it

(thanks Ged1980) - i dont know what it means, but this was the answer,

    BT Wholesale ADSL
    BT Wholesale ADSL Max
    AOL LLU
    O2 / Be LLU
    Bulldog LLU
    TalkTalk (CPW) LLU
    Sky Broadband / Easynet LLU
    Tiscali LLU
    Tiscali TV (via Tiscali LLU)

According to BT Wholesale, your address should be able to support a 5.5Mbps or greater ADSL connection via ADSL Max. I am apparently 1.3 km straight line length away from the exchange, which i know can affect speeds. Well it looks like I can't get Orange anyway........... so ohh look there’s my tail........... ohh there it is again!

Call me stupid, but when someone says i need a BT line, does that mean I have to rent the line from BT and pay say for example £22 for Sky TV, with the upgrade to 8mb BB, and then £10.50 to BT? Or just that you cant get this broadband on a digital (e.g Virgin) phone line.

ok, so i am probably unlikely to get the internet inlcuding all costs for under £20 a month, seems at i will have to pay £10.50 line rental. Thanks for helping me clear that up.

Have you thought about sharing a wifi connection with a neighbour? That way you wont need to pay the line rental and you can offer to pay half (or less!) of what they pay per month. You need to ensure there is a good signal though.

well I had joked abuot this, but wasnt sure how secure it would be. As i am sure if they half an ounce of sence, they could probably do something without me knowing.
