i think you can just use any nice sweet apples u like. normally green apples.
my nan used to use a fork instead of a stick haha and she'd wrap them in cellophaneWhat matters most is how well you walk through the fire0 -
Tip: Make sure you use apples withOUT wax.

some apples have a waxy coating on the skin, they look super shiny. if you use those, i suspect the toffee wont stick properly. you'll be able to tell in the supermarket which apples have a waxy skin and which ones haventWhat matters most is how well you walk through the fire0

Hi all
Just in case anyone wants it..my mums tried n tested super scrummy bonfire toffee :jshe even used to make it for us to take to school when we were kidsits the best in the whole world -ok i am biased - but its the only one I like -the proper dark stuff-and bless her socks she is sending me a batch out here to Germany :T
- In a heavy based pan dissolve 1lb demerara sugar in 1/4pt water -stirring
- add 2oz butter, 4oz treacle and 4oz golden syrup
- stir to combine
- bring to the boil -stirring occasionally
- boil to hard crack stage -149-154c
- tip onto a greased baking tray (NOT non stick) and leave to cool, then tip out and break
- store in a tub-sprinkled with icing sugar to stop it sticking
oohhh and im not being held responsible for any tooth ache
forgot to say -it makes 1 1/4 lbs nomnomnom -mine, all mine lol-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -
Thanks to all!!
MRSMCAWBER the proper dark one was the one I was after.... yeay!!

As this has fallen from the front page of OS, I'll add it to the existing thread. I love treacle toffee, but my dentist disagrees

I have also just made Treacle Toffe with my 10 year old daughter and her friend.
My daughter has an accute intolerence to dairy so for the first time I have have made treacle toffee that is dairy free. Just waiting (as you are Rob) for it to set now.
Tastes divine just need to see how it sets.

Ok - Long story short - My OH wants some bonfire toffee (in June!) anyway, my nan gave me a recipe AGES ago but I cant find it now - and cant get hold of dear old granny. Now its crunchy bonfire toffee i'm after - I remember that it has brown sugar, vinegar and carnation in it but not much else so im hoping one of you lovely lot will know the recipe . . . .
Much thanks (and apologies if this is the wrong board!)
Me xx0
