Nightmare with Comet

Hi everyone, our Fridge freezer was on it last legs and as we have appliance care with B/Gas they offered us £62.80 credit in the form of a comet discount card which obvioulsy meant we had to make our purchase at a comet store.

I managed to get 10% off the marked price of £299.99 and arranged for delivery for Saturday.

The delivery men came and as arranged took our old fridge freezer away and then went about getting the new fridge freezer unwrapped.

Problem was when the delivey men entered our kitchen i noticed something was missing forom the fridge freezer i.e the blooming fridge, they had delivered a stand up freezer.

So the problem i had was that on the day before we had done our monthly shp and there was a load of newly brought food ready to go into our new fridge compartment which was sadly lacking.

The delivery men said they could leave the freezer at ours untill the replacement came so at least the frozen food could be saved which i had not much choice but to agree to before going down to the comet store I made the purchase from to complain.

It turns out that the fridge freezer we chose in store had the wrong ticket number on and it should have been priced at £323.99 so the manager agreed for me to have the frideg freezer delivered for free and for me to have it as the price i originally paid plus to have my original delivery fees reimbursed. The only thing he couldnt deal with was all the refridgerated food that was going to be wasted that i had just purchased the day before and advised me to ring comet's head office on monday.
I have just spoken to the complaints department as comet's head office and was told after explaining the error comethad made withe the ticket number that comet would not reimburse me for refridgerated food that i had lost as it is food that would go off in a few days and there was other ways to keep it cool (like put the food in a bath of cold water !!! YEah great for a Saturday Night when you want a bath and the bacon and joints of meat are floatign in the bath!!!)
So is there anyway i can get them to reimburse my losses.

ask your next door neighbours if they can store some of your stuff or get a big bucket and put the stuff in there

You accepted the new freezer yet your old fridge freezer was on the back of the Comet van. You could have rejected the freezer and taken your fridge freezer back which would have solved your problems until you could got delivery of the proper item.

I think it is doubtful that you can reasonably expect Comet will give anything towards the food that was in your fridge unless they wish to make gesture of goodwill.

Was your old FF working? If so you should have kept it.

I bought a new FF from Dixons on line recently. They delivered 2 faulty ones before finally an undamaged one. Luckily I still had my old FF as I was freecycling it.

As others have said, I'm not sure why you didn't just ask them to put your old Fridge/Freezer back and then take the freezer away, and wait for them to deliver the correct item.

On this basis, you wouldn't be entitled to any compensation for the lost food.
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

    Compensation culture!
  • I think I would class it as a bit of a result getting a £324 item for around £210 and free delivery. Use what you saved to buy some more bacon :D

Ok Ok in hindsight I didnt get too bad a deal in regard to the price I guess I was livid that Comet Head Office didnt give any acceptance that their !!!! up was the reason why I had to loose the food. I could have asked the driver to put the old fridge freezer back but I was livid at having wasted a day waiting and the driver seemed more keen to get off (Last delivery on a Saturday footy on telly) PLis the diver had said that I could calim the food back on Comet.
In regard to keeping the food in buckets I have one bucket and as nice as my bucket is it wouldnt hold all the food I still had and both my neighbours are away on holiday ( you see unless your there you can't second judge!!!)
But thank you for all your replys and I guess it's a lesson learnt.
P.S. Optimist you really got to change your handle name lol to much negativity in your post!!!
