Good quality paint?

Options
Hi, I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good quality brand of paint. I am looking to paint my kitchen on the coming bank holiday weekend, and will be going from an orangy/terracotta to a kinda country cream.

I really need something with good coverage as the room is HUGE, so ideally i'd only like to have to give it two coats. Also something reasonably kiddy proof too.....and cheap ....not asking too much am I? :rotfl:

any reccomendations would be gratefully recieved, cheers xx

  • Best not to do cheap when it comes to paint, your usual DIY own brands are imho not very good. I would use Dulux or crown. If you want something that you can scrub then try Dulux Diamond Matt and get it mixed up in the colour of your choice. Its 10 times more hard wearing than your average vinal matt. For a few extra pounds its well worth spending that bit extra.

I've just done my sons room with Crown and I don't really rate it to be honest, I was painting onto lining paper with a very dark blue and I have done 3 coats so far and there are still blotches of the lining paper showing through. It might just be the colour though, I hope so because I bought it on offer and have a tin in Choc Chip to do my room with.

I used Wilkos own in my youngest sons room (cloudy blue it was called) and it only needed one coat on the same lining paper.

Dulux trade paint gives good coverage and dries like concrete - that's why painters and decorators use it.
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)
  • We've found Dluux tade emulsion is okay, better than most, but lately, we have been using Travis Perkins trade and have been very surprised at how well it covers and how hard wearing it is.

    I've been Money Tipped!
Would personally only recommend Dulux; any other paint we've used has chipped within days.

Hmm I just painted my bedroom today with this Dulux once thingymabob. It did a good job but when my dad went over a patch that was a bit blotty the paint peeled right off and looked a right mess although we managed to salvage it. Doesn't look too bad but I'm guessing you've gotta make sure you cover everything first time. Just though I'd let you know so you don't make the same mistake as I did. ^_^

B&Q One Coat I have found to be better that any Dulux or Crown, it covers in one go with most colours and is cost effective.

    Avoid Wickes own paint.;)

Over the years I've used Crown, Dulux and B&Q/Homebases own brands and they've all done the job more or less, but since I used it last year I wouldnt use any other than Johnstones paints.
Coverage is great and a decent range of colours.

Try Dulux Endurance paints (which I think is just the retail name for the Diamond Matts which Tom Thumb recommended)....which used to be called Real Life as well. Meant to be very good.

    Go with scoobs72 on this.
I have used Diamond matt for lots of my clients, but cheap it is not.
It is a very tough matt finish, and allows you to scrub off marks/stains.
If you try to scrub normal matt the area will 'buff' to a shine, diamond matt does not.
I think you are looking around £40 for 5ltrs.
If you do go for Diamond it is avaliable at Dulux Dec centres, be sure to grab yourself a 10% discount card from in-store first.
