    Look at the bottom of the setup screen there should be a F key which says F(blah) Restore Setup defaults

    There was no F option anywhere!

    It as all enter, esc etc....

    I don't really open it up unless I really have to but do you think this could be the problem?

    also the fact that when you have to push F1 it directs you to a black screen with the wrtiting to select windows - gives you 2 exactly the same titles, the first one brings you into windows properly and if you select the second one it says error or something like that! - would this be causing the problem - like there is 2 windows its trying to load! sorry if this is brief, I am going off memory of what it says and I am no expert with computers! lol

    The advice i was giving was for ' No bootable devices - strike f1 to ret boot f2 for setup', your second problem with the 2 windows titles basicly is there because you didnt format the drive properly when you reinstalled to get rid of it you need to go on my computer C: then open boot.ini and remove the second boot option entry then save and reboot

    sorry, I have made the files unhidden and done a search for Boot.ini but it can't find it.

    Tried finding it through start> Run> C:\ boot.ini and it came up with a notepad and this

    [boot loader]
    timeout=30
    default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
    [operating systems]
    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect
    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect

    Is that any good?

    IF you said you select the first option and you boot up ok then change it to this:

    [php][boot loader]
    timeout=30
    default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
    [operating systems]
    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect
    [/php]
