Please can you tell me which drivers I need!

Its all really confusing me as there are so many I need to know which ones I need to use!

Right, my sister has reformatted her dell pc it is a Dimension 3100, the speakers are not working and in device manager it says with the yellow eclamation mark against the Ethernet Controller and the PCI Device.

She does have the resource cds still and it found the video driver required but can't find these. I have looked on teh dell website and think I can get them from there but its just knowing which ones I need!

Please advise ( I am not here for too long and really want to sort it for her!)

ok it is saying this....

Windows Media Player cannot play the DVD because a compatible DVD decoder is not installed on your computer

do I need another driver?

You need proprietary codecs to play DVDS, I recommend you use VLC http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ or update to windows media player 11 - try windows update.

No you need a codec, however VLC media player will play just about anything out of the tin. here far better than WMP.

ok last problem!

This happens when I try and boot pc, it says this: No bootable devices - strike f1 to ret boot f2 for setup

It works ok when I push F1 then select the xp thing to load! but surely should just load straight away!

also I tried F2 to setup but don't understand it fully

oh & this hasn't got a floppy drive

How did you boot into Windows, or has this just happened ?

just by switching it on it has done it, It started when they reinstalled everything onto it, also when you select the windows to install it gives you 2 options exactly the same ,the first loads into windows ok but if you select the other option then it takes you back to click F2 for the setup

Enter the BIOS ( or 'Setup' ) and set everything to defaults or open up the computer and take the cmos memory battery out and put it back in again (penny type thing - like a watch battery, unplug the pc before opening) After this you may have to redetect the Hard drives but that should be automatic
