Aol - What A Joke

I have been a member of AOL for the past 5 years and up until 4 months ago I have been happy with the internet broadband service.
The problem started 3 months ago when a phone call came through to the house and when I answerered the internet disconnected. This has happened multiple times. I contacted AOL via email and they sent me the same automated message many times. Today I phoned them up as I was getting angry, straight away as the call was answered I knew the call centre was not uk based. How distressing!!! I spent the first 25 minutes talking to call centre agent who repeated what had already been sent to me via email, at my request I was then passed on to a senior technician and when I asked to speak to the manager I was passed on to someone else who told me the same thing I had previously been told.
Aol had made out that the fault was at my end and requested that I get a engineer to look at the phone lines. When I had told AOL that I had already had this done they started to get aggressive. They then told me lies that they had just checked my internet connection but I was not even connected to the internet ,when I told them this they got even more aggressive.I threatened to change providers but was told I would have the same problems regardless. I then decided I was gonna cancel my account and again passed on to an agent who again could not speak very much english so I got fed up and disconnected the call.
Am I alone on this matter or is AOL annoying everyone...Comments welcome

you will not believe what happened to me today.
I have been with Aol for about 7 years, i have had a new pc forabout 9 months and have not actually had the Aol software installed on my PC, i have just been using the router to connect. I get my email from aol.co.uk but
I need the software to be able to check my account properly etc.
today I downloaded the software, installed it and it will not move beyond the
checking password stage, it eventually cuts off saying it cant connect.
I have phoned them up and spoken to 2 different technicians, the first one was totsally stumped and told me to download the software again (why?)
so I called back and tried someone else (they are all at an indian call centre btw), got someone else even more stupid this time, he actually, without asking me, changed my master screen password! I can not change it again as i cant access aol with the software, so now my password is insecure and I cant change it.
called customer services and the bloke told me the problem is because AOL and Vista are not compatible with my Netgear Dg834 router!
(absolute rubbish) he wanted me to sign a new contract for a new Thomson router and a 'faster' connection up to 8mb, ( i upgraded a year ago and was told i was getting up to 8mb, i tested my line and it said 6mb, he reckons I am only getting 3mb)
and I will have to pay them £3 more a month for the privilege. he said it is the only way I am going to be able to get on with the software, and I wont be able to change my password untill I do!
speechless. They really have gone down the pan.0 -

they are indeed, I'm find them very unreliable these days
I've been with them since 2003, I was going to change at the start of the year, but when I rang up to request a mac code I got talked into accepting a new 18 month contract as they offered to reduce my monthly charge from £30 to £10.
All was well until recently - everytime I logged in I got a message on the welcome page telling me that they are moving to a new network and I need to download something so that my PC would be compatible with it. I would clink the link to download the files but nothing would happen. I then got send a disc from them saying I had to install its contents as a matter of urgency else I may lose my connection. I downloaded the files from the CD and all seemed sorted.
But then a fortnight ago I went to log on and it wouldn't let me, I kept getting a message saying it was not possible to connect me and to contact the help desk. After hanging on for an eternity to speak to someone at the call center I eventually got a connection. I had to go into the control panel and press connect on something called DialBB. I now have to do this every time I restart my computerand today even that method did'nt work as it kept saying it did'nt recongise my password. I phoned up the call centre was told that they are experiencing technial issues and to ring back in a hour and then hung up on:mad:
I tried it again a few hours later and all was back to normal and I got back on-line.
I've got about a year left on the contract I'm tied to, after that I'm definatly going to find another ISP.feeling lucky?:beer:0 -

I requested my MAC code this morning, they said I have to wait 5-7 days for this, I am deffo leaving them as I have had enough now.
I called o2 broadband and have placed an order with them, I have just got to phone them with the MAC code when I get it and then its all systems go. they do sound really good.0 -
I've been with AOL for years now. On the whole, not bad, until they went with Car Phone Warehouse. I had most of the problems everyone else had at the time but eventually it seemed to right itself. However, for a week now I have had difficulty connecting to dialbb which it seems you have to do before you can click on to AOL. The only way I can resolve it is to switch off the modem for about 20 seconds and then switch on again and usually it then connects to dialbb. Wouldn't dream of phoning them these days - been there, done that!!0

forgive my ignorance, but what is "dialbb"0

about a year ago I was paying AOL 17.99 for 1mb and agreed to a deal to pay 9.99 for 8mb with AOL talk, I am sure I was told it was a 12 month contract.
2 days ago i asked for my MAC code, nothing was said apart from I would get it in five days. I was worried that the 12 months might not be up so called CS to check and they told me I am still on an 18 month contract!!!
I said I was told 12 months and she said no you would have had the terms& conditions sent to you in an email , i NEVER EVER got an email, i remember phoning them at the time to check that i was on Aol talk as I did not get any emails at all.
In the end she said I would only have to pay a £12 charge to get the equipment off my line, and i would be billed for this when I got my MAC. I have never heard of this before.
Does this sound right??? I am not convinced, I am wondering if I will get an email saying i cant have my MAC unless I pay the six months worth?
What should I do now?0 -

dialbb is an icon on my desktop which aol customer services in India said I needed in order to connect and it took hours of talking through functions, changing password etc. to get it. I was told it stands for 'dial broad band'. Until all the problems occurred months ago I could connect without it but not any more.0
