Orange

Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone could help me with my confusing problem.

On the 2nd of August 2008, I upgraded my mobile phone to the Blackberry Pearl 8120. As my billing date is on the 3rd of every month, I was unable to go on to my new tariff, but stay on my old one until my next billing date.

I have contacted Orange on several occasions about what's happening, whether they'll wave my next bill to my new tariff, in other words, refund me the difference from my old service plan, to my new one, but different people at Orange are telling me different things. Here is what i'm being told.

"Give us a call back on the 4th of September, the day after your billing date and we'll do a billing recount, which usually takes a week to do".

I have no clue, what so ever whether I was put on to my new tariff the day I upgraded, or whether I would have to wait until my next billing date, which is on the 3rd of September.

As I thought I was put on to my new tariff as soon as I upgraded, I have been using my phone as if i'm on my new tariff.

I have a Blackberry internet bundle with Orange, which costs £2.50 a month for 250 mb. This only applies to my new tariff and not my old one. As I haven't been put on to my new tariff, I have incured £15.00 data costs already.

If anyone has any advice for me, it would be very much apprechiated.

  • Well, generally, your T&Cs of the contract state that you should call up a couple of days before your billing date in order to change your tariff. If you call up the day before or ON the day of your billing cycle, your tariff usually cannot be changed, and has to be done the following day (system will not allow the change).

Your tariff changes only in line with your billing date. So you're still on your old tariff, until next month (i'd imagine - can't tell for sure as you'd need to have access to your account to see those details)

Billing re-calc teams only usually re-calc the bill if there's been an error on your account. In my view, calling up and not being able to use your tariff becuase it starts next month, isn't a reason to re-calculate your bill.

This said, if you have been told to act as though you're on your new tariff, then you have some supporting evidence to demand a billing re-calc. (make sure you keep the text!)

Also, for clarification, i'd call Orange again, ask them to clarify the situation, and request that detailed notes to that effect be written on your account (again so you have proof of what's been discussed).
