Pania Im a inhouse recruitment specialist. If you need any help please feel free to ask. I would love to be able to help.

The thing about when I conduct telephone interviews. For the first 10-15 mins they are general interview. And the second part is a competency based interview section.

Do you know if it will be competency based or not??

It may be an idea to ask the HR person as they can throw you off if you are not expecting them.

Dont forget to do your home work on the company and have a few bullet points written down on why you would like to work for the specificcompany

    Best of luck hon

The thing about competency based interview questions. The recruiter is always looking to see have you met the

    STAR criteria

    S - Suitation
    T - Task
    A - Action
    R - Result

Eg. Can you tell me about a time, when you had to deal with a disgruntled customer, What did you do?

S - The suitation - describe the suitation - eg Yes there was one time a customer rang up and he had been sent the wrong computer, it was not what he had ordered and was very irrate

T - What was your role in this suitation - we you customer serivce, were you receptionist, were you manager, what were you

A - Action - what did you do in this suitation - eg I listen carefully to the customer, I told them I was writing their complaint down, took their name and no, in case we would get cut off, so not to cause further irratation. Asked all details, eg when the goods were ordered, was it in person, over phone, on line,. Did they have a receipt or an order number. etc

Result - What was the outcome = The customer was happy because I was taking their complaint seriously and was not trying to fob them off. They wre satisfied that I was doing everything in my power to assure them that the matter would be rectified and they were satisfied. I got the correct equiptment delivered to them next day

This is an example - but just to help with they type of question you could be asked.

    Hope it helps

That is excellent, icka and is probably very useful info for us all to tuck away!

I was put on the spot with a similar question a couple of years ago - thankfully I bumbled my way through it successfully but I would much have preferred to have a "bank" of scenarios in my mind before I started!

The competency questions will be slightly different pending on the role you are going for.

    Example

    Sales roles -

    Competency questions.

    1. Can you tell me about a time you have to convince someone to take a product they did not want, how did you go about this?

    2. Can you tell me about a time that you used your contacts or network to help you? How did you do this.

    3. Can you tell me about a time you were on on track to make your quaterly target? What did you do

$. Can you tell me about a time you have to teach someone something new?

For a finance role the questions could be like

    1. Can you tell me about a time you had to make sense of alot of data? What did you do?

    2. Can you tell me about a time you implemented a new systemfor doing a specific thing? What did you do.?

    3. Can you tell me about a time you have to work to a very strict deadline and it was closing fast? What did you do?

    Etc etc

You always need to have these prepared before you step into interview, always try to think of what they could ask you and be prepared.

    Alway remember
