I can only go one experience but I have an 11 yr old Golden Retriever and a 3 yr old x breed. Both are insured with Tesco who have been great over they years especiely with the goldie. When she was a pup she was insured with one of the biggest but after one bout of Kennel Cough and Cystitis they excluded for life her respitory and urinary tract. Tesco just laughed at this as they said this was common with wee girlies and no exclusion:D over the years she has cost them a fair few thousands but her month premiums now are what I was paying 10 years ago with the big one:eek: So I would always go Tesco with my mob.

Thanks dobiesmon! I've just got a quote from them and it was £13.76, much better than the £26 I'm paying Virgin.

A friend used to insure her retriever with nfu and they were always very cheap, but I think the cover is a bit restrictive. I haven't tried them yet.
  • Hi,

we have our pedigree boxer insured with E&L for £6.90 per month.

My Beardie is insured with Pet Plan. They're a bit more expensive than Tesco etc (about £180 last year) but the cover is ongoing not like some which only cover a health problem once in a dog's lifetime. It's cheaper than my car insurance anyway!

    Hi brandyslad
The trouble with E&L I am told is a lot of vets won't wait for payment from them or take a direct payment from them as you have to wait for months if they ever pay out .

Also insurance is ok for one dog it gets more expensive the more you have I had M&S for the 3 dogs started at 48 then the following year jumped to 90 this year they wanted 130 and my dogs never had a claim . thats when I did all the searching.

Do not know about E&L for dogs but they are not good re horse insurance. Most vets I know pull a worried face if you mention you insure with them. I have a couple of friends who have given up trying to get their money when sadly their horses had to be pts.

Try a quote from Axa's website. Cover seemed quite good as far as I could tell.

  • My dogs are insured through PetPlan. They cost about £180 annually each. (cross breeds)

They are covered for life for any ongoing condition, and most importantly for me PetPlan pay claims promptly and without argument. We've claimed thousands over the last 4 years. I'd thoroughly recommend them.

You cannot live as I have lived an not end up like me.

Oi you lot - please :heart:GIVE BLOOD  - you never know when you and yours might need it back! 67 pints so far.
