She is going to make me fat and broke

Bear with me whilst I moan….
I’ve recently met someone who is a total bad influence on me!
1st she is way overweight and eats loads, I cant even hang around her too long as she keeps offering me stuff to eat and to be honest I can be easily influenced when it comes to food so after the 10th time of refusing chocolate from her I find myself giving in and eating stuff that I wouldn’t usually be putting in my body.
2nd and the main reason why I’m posting is she spends money like water and because I can’t even go there she thinks I am being stingy and mean!
She is not even working and managed to go on two long haul holidays this year (I haven’t been anywhere yet) She admitted that she has 7 credit cards but doesn’t even know how much is on them all as she just uses them and just pays the minimum.
We met up for a coffee and a chat I spent £5 she spent £100 just for a flipping coffee and a chat.
She got a black cab to meet me and one home £40 (she calls herself the taxi queen and is proud of it, she says she cant stand public transport)
Whilst me met up she ordered food from the menu (it wasn’t even lunchtime or dinner time or anything) she ordered two main meals and ate them £30
For drinks she ordered champagne (we were not celebrating a thing) and also a cocktail. £15 Then two desserts (for herself) a coffee and an ice cream. £20
All through it she kept saying, why am I not ordering a thing, I kept saying I had food at home and she kept telling me I had to live a little. I felt pressured to order something so as well as my drink I ordered a tiny starter and thats why I spent £5
When we were finished I told her I had to get the train home and she wasn’t really impressed as she wanted to get a taxi with me but I told her I couldn’t afford it. She then replied saying how broke she was as well and that she would have to find a job soon or she would be in real trouble!
So I told her to get the train with me and she looked at me as if I had suggested she eat dog poo!
What do you do with someone like this? She is living in a bloody dreamworld!!
Any suggestions apart from doing what I feel like doing and staying well away???
Do you know anyone like this?

Wow Angeldiva, your friend has big problems! It sounds as if she is heading for a crash, when suddenly she can't keep it together.
Once she has her lightbulb moment you will be able to give her lots of support and help.
But meanwhile she is in denial so I think you are better off not seeing her. Can you make excuses, or just say you really can't afford it so are not going out until you've sorted your finances.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -
I'd be one step in front of Joyful. You've not known her long so get out while you can.0

There is nothing you can do at the moment.
Stay well away if she encourages you to spend money you haven't got.
Tell her that much as you would like to see her, you can't afford to keep up with her lifestyle.
IF she ever has a Lightbulb moment, you can be there to help.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Wow, £100 for a cup of coffee, that's going some!! I'm trying not to be impressed in an appalled sort of way, if you know what I mean.
I'm in agreement with the others here, try and avoid her, she'll have to crash one day soon. If you enjoy her company could you suggest she comes round to your place for coffee and a chat. Then at least you only have to supply the coffee and not be tempted to spend anything else?Total debt at October 2008: £67,213.30

Ditto what the others said! I have a friend who's not quite as bad as she has the means to support herself but she has her hair cut and coloured literally every month at £100 a pop, she buys anything she wants on a whim, spends goodness knows how much on lovely food and every time I go out with her around town she is definitely a bad influence as she'll encourage me to buy stuff I can't afford. I just explain to her I can't afford it and she's fine but then your friend sounds like a different class altogether!
I would definitely distance myself if I were you - how do you know this person - is it through school or anything as it could be tricky if there is a connection there or similar? Does she have any other redeeming features that make you want to stay friends? You say she's overweight, my guess is that she's throwing cash around as she's insecure and thinks that this kind of behaviour will impress other people.

Run away as fast as you can.
If her bad eating habits are already influencing you then it is time to move on an regain yourself and not be the person she wants you to be - morbidly obese and skint.0 -

But take some of the chocolate with you. :EasterBunI am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.

I would be inclined to leave her to it - she's not a good influence for you. If you do decide to stay her friend, perhaps get her to come round to yours (so you have no travel costs) and ask her to bring some food and drink with her or a night in front of a dvd or something. For her to be eating this excessively I would suggest she definitely has an eating disorder and self-esteem problem. If you have any books that are uplifting and she would read them - perhaps you could lend them to her and see if that has any influence. Encourage her to join this site and do an SOA - that's a wake up call if ever there was one....Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030
