On the smoking in a non-smoking house front. I always used to specify "non-smoking". Consequently - I was astonished when not just one - but several - people turned out to be smokers subsequently and all except one of them then proceeded to smoke in my house.

I couldnt understand why they did this - if they knew they were smokers and intended to continue, then why on earth did they choose to come and live at a house that was quite clearly labelled as being a "non-smoking" one at the outset?

It finally dawned on me that the best way to deal with things would have been not to even mention "non-smoking" in the advert and then offer them a cigarette (specially bought in;) ) at the interview and see whether they accepted. If they did - I wouldnt (accept them that is).

You'd have to buy a whole pack to make it look convincing. A single cigarette offered by itself would look pretty suss.

I am sorry to hear of your problems photoshop guru.I imagine it would be very hard to do what you know needs to be done. This person is extracting the urine and needs to be got rid of pronto.Obviously your friends and relatives have friends for whom they have lower standards than you have. I don't know what the answer to that problem might be. The suggested questionnaire seems to be along the right lines, and also the cigarette thing. Any way, best of luck.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.
  • Well his Mother is really disappointed in him - she wont let him live with her. He's got a few places to look at today.. the atmosphere is pretty hostile, especially when he found out I'm having a celebratory BBQ next weekend! Work has also found out that I'm working on something external... wonder who gave them the tip off...

But, I may get Garden leave - leave now, get paid for my notice period.. pretty excellent if that happens :-D

A blonde... cleverly disguised as a Brunette.......;)
  • Near Boston, Linconshire, for the most part sunny, but I absolutely hate it. It's too flat, and everyone seems to be lacking in any ambition. It's where people go to retire.. or die. There are absolutely no women worth persuing here.. Plus, the xenophobia...

Some fella's pulled up next to me in a beat up old Cortina the other day. I was minding my own, carrying my shopping - they were armed with baseball bats and asked if I was Polish... this got my back up, so I said nothing to see what would happen, and sure enough they went for me.. I need to get to London, or New York.. or back to the west country.. which is another reason for doing my own thing.

There's always 2 sides to any story.

Having said that, I'd stab the lodger and bury him under the patio if I were you.
