    Have you tried updating again from the system tray icon? It worked for me too, until I tried to update again. I'm running Vista and my other half has XP and we're both getting the problem. As mentioned in the post by Iconic above, AVG know about the issue and are trying to fix it. This is the second time that AVG has had a major error recently, think it's time to switch to something else.

    mine has just updated successfully so give it another try.
    My self & hubby; 2 sons (30 & 26). Hubby also a found daughter (37).
    Eldest son has his own house with partner & her 2 children (11 & 10)
    Youngest son & fiancé now have own house.
    So we’re empty nesters.
    Daughter married with 3 boys (12, 9 & 5).

    I have successfully updated my avg as well.
    Is it possible to merge this thread with the one that states bin file is missing since they are similar.

    I turned off my pc and turned it on again about 3o mins ago. All working fine now
