  • i would not bother with any 'free' laptop deal.

the laptops are usually low specced, with the rrp value over-inflated.

You will also pay top dollar on your contract.

i.e t-mobile.co.uk are currently offering an acer, they claim the rrp is £349.00.... Its true value is about £250.

To get this lappy you have to sign a 24 month contract for mobile broadband at £30.00 per month.

    24 * £30 = £720.00

The same mobile broadband without the laptop is £12.50 per month.

    24 * £12.50 = £300.00

Therefore your free laptop (a crap one) actually costs you £420.00

There are some deals out there with free laptops that are on phones rather than mobile broadband contracts but as a rule you'll end up paying £40 upwards on these deals (this is ok if you actually use the tariff but possibly a false economy if you aren't).

Check out the usual suspects (ie CPW, the link, onestop, etc) who will all have some deals. It may also be worth trying out the service promoted by some of them who claim to offer the ability to create a custom deal for you. In the case of the link being part of DSG, theoreticly you could find a laptop on PCW or similar that suited your requirements and see if they can back up the claimed custom service (obviously you'd need to be aware of what you may be prepared to either pay upfront or pay per month to get it).
