I bought a Canon camera from 7dayshop once; it was an overseas model, the warranty wasn't even valid in the UK. I'd want a lot bigger saving than £30 to lose my warranty.0

They might say they pay duty but check out the neutrals and negs on ebay where people are complaining they had to pay a lot more to get their goods.

My forums are open to the public and completely free to use, however unless the moderators/admins of this site agree to allow it, I cannot advertise my site here, it would be discourteous (SP) and wrong of me to do so.PS I cant be more specific as I run a digital photography site of my own and I am not prepared to pimp on another forum.
Can I access your web site on the web?
If you find a digital photography site with the forum administrator using the same name as the one I use here, you have probably found my site.0 -
Bear in mind if it goes faulty you will have to send it back to Hong Kong at your own expence and it will be gone for several weeks , for the sake of £30 i would definately go to Amazon , there customer service is excellent.0

I have used this site three times, for very expensive digital SLR's (pro photographer) and recommended it to three friends who have all used it. I have had no problems with them at all. They ship promptly and reimburse your import charges within 24hours. I didn't even have a problem when I unexpectedly received a bill for the import tax 3 months after receipt of the camera.0

In that case, despite Bubble16's good review, go with Amazon for £33. Forgetting any possible returns/warranty issue, VAT would be £130!
BTW, I've returned stuff to Amazon and they are great - they pay for all the postage. They even issued a replacement for something that broke months later when they should have told us to get it fixed under the lifetime warranty.
EDIT: Oops, missed the part about them reimbursing your import charges
. So it's back to whether the manufacturer's warranty is good in the UK and who pays return postage (and where to). 0 -
With the ebay feedback that continually mentions being stung for extra charges I wouldn't risk it for such a small saving. Like the others have said, the costs alone of returning it back to Hong Kong if it gets a fault are enough to put me off.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. but you havent had any faults requiring return?0 -
I've just realised how their business model works. They charge the customer VAT on a low, but not insanely low, basic price. Customer pays inc. VAT. They ship without paying VAT but if they get caught, DR pay.
So in x% of cases, they get away with it and get to keep the VAT!
That's unlike imports I've seen before, where it is the customer who bears the risk (and reaps the reward) with regards to having to pay VAT. Somehow it seems shadier to me for a company to try to directly profit, although morally I know there's no difference.0
