    Well that would be in the T's and C's. Different cards have different policies on fees.

    Now that you have stopped using the card for gambling transactions and you have paid the final amount of Residual Interest of 7p you should not be charged anymore interest.

    I think your friend was very lucky that HSBC didn't treat gambling transactions as Cash Advances.
