they aren't a necessity are they?
Baby's development isn't going to be stunted if they don't own a pair?

It's no way MSE, i love the post asking is any of the Grannies could knit them. They could make money on that.

But I wouldn't feel I had to have a pair let alone several of them, especially at that price, i know we like our lil ones to look lovely, but how long would they be in them, it's not worth it.
Surely asking if anyone knew if there are cheaper versions is the ethos of MSE:confused:
No of course they aren't a neccessity, and baby's development won't be stunted if they don't have these socks but like you say we like our lil ones to look lovely. They are sock's though, if it was those awful pram shoes/baby trainers etc then I would be dead set againts them, they could detrimentally affect babys feet but there is no harm in socks.
I saw the trumpette mary jane style socks and thought they were gorgeous but could not justify the price, so when I saw similar in M&S the other week I snapped them up and they do look very cute, I'm just disappointed they don't do them in my size:mad:

If the OP can afford them then what is the problem, expensive or not?

Since reading this thread I keep seeing them elsewhere. www.storkgifts.co.uk has the range and also www.boutiquetoyou.co.uk

for goodness sake they are socks lol ... Cheaper on amazon as they say. However having had 2 children I would say a complete waste of money as babies ALWAYS pull socks off.

And sorry to upset the bandwagon but I agree with paparika, my little ones look lovely without socks. The socks do not make them look even more lovely!

Good grief, I only posted a money saving question on socks. I didn't expect a bun fight. I was hoping someone would say - yes they sell them in primark (etc) for a quid. The size is up to 12 months so my LO would be able to wear them for quite a while as he is so tiny. The majority of his clothes are hand-me-downs or off ebay so it would be nice to purchase the odd frivolous item for him.

Grannies and aunties (and mum) can all knit and crochet to various degrees and baby has lots of lovingly handmade blankets, hats, booties and cardigans. However no one can do a really fine knit that would make the socks look convincingly like shoes. I could buy a sock loom but I've got more important things to do like look after a demanding baby.

I think I will buy the real ones, keep one and sell the remander singly on ebay, hopefully for a small profit. There has to be other parents out there who just want one pair!

Thank you everyone for your helpful suggestions.

Remember if he is so tiny and the socks are upto 12 months then they probably won't fit him for a while, then he may well all of a sudden have a massive growth spirt and you will have been too late. Good idea on selling them singly though ;)
