A friend managed to buy one last year for 25.00 on ebay. He wasn't expecting it to work, and only bought it because it was the same model as the one he already had, and wanted the screen, or something, but it was in near perfect condition. I guess he was really lucky though.

    Your local freecycle!!!!

Freecycle is great as people give away loads of usefull stuff everyday and sometimes that includes computers/laptops. Seriously though maybe if u post it on your local freecycle you may be lucky to receive one. But don't expect it to be brand new

Another thing you could do to is gather stuff from your local freecycle and sell it on ebay or cash converters to make the funds for a mobile broadband contract.

I'm sure the freat stuff they give away can add up to the amount needed and theres your laptop.

    Heres the link

    Hope this helps :)

PLEASE NOTE if you are selling things that you receive on freecycle you MUST declare this to the offerer (or make it clear in your wanted posts). It is one of the terms you agree to when joining and if you don't declare you risk being banned.

I'm sure that this is against the spirit of Freecycle!

Agree with ShelBell and Scarlett, asking for or getting stuff from another member on Freecycle to sell yourself is not the idea behind Freecycle. I'm sure it happens but if it happened too often it would stop people offering stuff on there.

    MOVING THREADS FOR BETTER RESPONSES

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to the techie board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com.

  • Hey thanks for the reponses so far everyone:)

I wouldnt sell anything I got from Freecycle because if I got something from there it would be something I needed and if I didnt need it I would let it go to someone that did:)
  • I was going to suggest the Prince's Trust as they give grants for training and education. However at 26 you are one year too old.

I found another site http://www.egas-online.org.uk/ who administer grants.

A quick google of 'Education Grants' will bring up a load more

You may also qualify for the adult learning grant. Have a look here http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/EducationAndLearning/AdultLearning/Adultlearninggrant/DG_068348

You should also ask at your college as they may have a hardship fund and may be able to help you out.

Another avenue is a refurbished PC. The local authority I work for donate the old PC's to a charity who then refurb them and sell them on at a very cheap price. You could contact your local council and ask what they do with them, ask for the IT department. I know a lot of local authorities do the same as ours.
