How much is it worth?

Hi all, I have seen a 1995 M reg Ford Mondeo 1.8td lx for sale locally it is in very good condition and has only covered 37000 miles. It is for sale at £1550. I have tried checking Parkers online as well as What Car? but there valuations do not go that far back.

So my question is, is it worth the money? and if not how much is it worth?

Thanks,

Pete.

  • Is it from a dealer or a private sale?
Mileage seems a little low for a Mondeo diesel - they often get used as taxi's or fleet workhorses. Are you sure it's not 137k (I don't know if the Mondeo has the extra digit on the clock - Escorts of that year didn't).
Whichever way you look at it, it's a ten year old car - and an early model at that. I personally wouldn't want to part with more than a grand for it.

  • If the mileage is genuine (unlikely, but you never know) then this is bad. Think about it 10 years = 3700 miles per year, therefore lots of stop start driving and engine wear, and lots of wear on clutch, gearbox, alternator, interior, electrics, driveshafts, brakes, clutch (i think you get the idea). Personally i would avoid on two reasons 1) i don’t believe mileage and 2) if the mileage is genuine then as above (i.e. the car is knackered)

Remember cars which do very low mileage per year are bad, its just uninformed people that believe mileage is everything, no, condition is everything mileage is only a minor factor. The asking price is a joke.

    Hope this helps

The car is worth as much as someone is willing to pay.

As others have said at this age fords have mileometers that only go up to 99,999 miles so there is a fair chance it has been round the clock. Unless it either has full service history or every MOT since new i would not take the mileage as genuine.

Hi and thanks for the reply's I does have a full SH and all the MOT's it is owned by an older couple who've obviously looked after it. But you have all made very good points and now I have serious misgivings. I did think £1550 was a steep price and had been prepaired to offer only a grand. So i'll go and take a look at it and let you know what happens.

Too be honest I have around 6k to spend and was planning on going to the auction next week so I may still hang out for that. I just thought this would be a cheep alternative as I do around 25-30k a year.

    Thanks,

    Pete.

I think it will be a good buy for a grand, Full Service History, 1 Owner, Old Couple, All Old MOT's - Seems like a good genuine low milage looked after car. Diesel engines are solid too.
Get it for a grand, run it a few years and probably still get £500 back on it - Cheap Motoring !!!
  • Mate of mine picked up a P reg TD Mondeo a couple of months ago for £750. Fuel pump went on it shortly after so he bought an N reg TD for £700 and had no problems with it so even a grand seems too steep.

Bought it paid £1100 for it it's in perfect nick with genuine 37k all mot's and service history the guy even has the cam belt changed every 4k!

I know I probably paid over the odds but if it lasts me a year i'll be happy and like aletanks says if I get £500 for it this time next year that'll do me.

    Thanks for the help guy's.

Get the cambelt (timingbelt) changed NOW - unless it's recently been done.Plus oil & filters, including fuel filter.

The plus of buying this car over spending 5 k is that your maximum loss is only 1100 wheras the 5k car will prbably depricaite more than that in the first 9 months - a wise choice I think.
    I think....
