Hi Laura & VG, so sorry to hear that you have redundancy worries.
I have had some experience of this as a Union rep dealing with a large redundancy programme a few years ago, so here goes my best advice (which was quite sucessful in saving a few peoples jobs back then)
1) Find out the criteria under which the redundancies are being decided.
2) Score yourself under those criteria and see where you think this may leave you (be as honest as you can)
3) Enlist the support of your Union rep if you have one (They quite often know stuff which isn't common knowledge)
4) Gather EVERYtiny piece of information about yourself which shows how good you are. Eg Progress reports, appraisals, customer testimonials etc. This will be very useful if you are pre- selected and get a chance to discuss your position with the powers that be before the final decision is made. It's also a great confidence booster at a miserable time ( and would always come in handy if a CV is needed.
4) Be ready to fight for your job with all of the above.
5) Find out if your company offer any help to those made redundant, re-training workshops, jobfinder consultants etc. Many do.
6) Find out if you may be given paid "gardening leave" if you are selected. This will give you time to start looking for something new.
7) Look for something else anyway, you never know you might find something you like better (just be careful not to let your current employer find out)
8) Think Positively! Often when talk of redundancies starts up, people who were thinking of leaving do & less redundancies are necessary (that's why they give lots of warning)
Hope some of this helps (sorry it's long)
Good Luck & feel free to PM if I can help at allThanks to all who post comps :A :T0 -
Oh VG that's horrible. Same thing happened a few years ago to OH and he was one of the one's to go! His redundancy money lasted about 5 mins! But he's a much happier person now, having had that change forced upon him. He did just as Toni (Hi hun!!) advised and had a contingency plan in place (well several actually) and that worked for him. I just ran around screaming "Oh No! Oh No!" all the time.lol. We had 4 kids at the time and that's all I could think about. But things are better now than they were then, so you never know!
Be thinking about you and hope everything turns out well, I'm sure it will.
Its not raining!!!!!! Getting everything ready for going away on 1st Sept - back to Flamingoland - hope the weather holds!!
Kim_ley hun, good for you and I wish you well. I'll keep you in mind if I win anything I don't want, but my problem is winning anything at the moment!!!
Hi RockGypsy - welcome to the madhouse (in a nice way) - great name!0 -
Does anyone know how long it takes to cook mutton? I've got a kilo to cook for tonight's tea, think I'm stewing it. Does it take much longer than lamb?0

The good thing is though that the owner of the Beetle just wanted it off his hands & couldn't be bothered to advertise, so gave it to us for £90!!:p
It needs a bit of restoring but my OH is very handy & his brother used to restore classic cars for a living - bonus!!
Well done on getting the beetle for £90 - super bargain! We have a campervan which other half is lovingly but slowly restoring. Going off to vanfest in sept, OH says I won't believe my eyes!
The next purchase, when we have a spare bit of dosh is a vw beetle for me! I don't see that happening for a few years!
Well done again
:beer:EXTRA GOOD LUCK EVERYONE FOR 2015. XXX
