Does my boiler need a service?

Firstly I apologise if this seems a stupid question but I don't know whether my boiler needs a service or not. We bought our house last April and were told the boiler was only put in the christmas before we moved in ( we have the documents that go with it to back this up )
We haven't had it serviced yet, I dont know whether you are supposed to do this annually or if you only do it once it gets to a certain age?
I was a first time buyer so am still learning about everything that needs to be done around a house!

Hi
As a Corgi I have a vested interest in saying that, yes, you should have it serviced annually.
You could go to the boiler manufacturers website and consult the installation/servicing manual to confirm if what I say is true or not.
There are some on the forum who will disagree and some who would say you could do it yourself with a vacuum cleaner and a pack of cotton buds.Resist the temptation and follow manufacturers instructions.
If you can't find a Corgi by recommendation visit www.trustcorgi.com to find someone local to you.

Corgi Guy.
Canucklehead,
I don't think anyone has said that you shouldn't follow the manufacturers instructions.
What I said, in the thread I started about boiler servicing was that having read the full servicing manuals on my 2 boilers(and others I looked at on the web) the 'servicing' essentially consisted of cleaning and there was no monitoring or adjustment affecting boiler efficiency.
Additionally I have watched the BG fitters service several boilers and that is exactly the same procedure that they carry out - i.e. they follow the manufacturers instructions.
I am certainly no plumber, but I and anyone with fairly basic DIY skills could follow the manufacturers instructions.
So a question - In your considered opinion, does servicing improve efficiency? and if so how? and how do you determine if efficiency has been improved?0
